Description
For ship power plants and hybrid propulsion systems the manufacturer makes three groups of machines. These are low-speed shaft generators, medium-speed generators for diesel generator sets and high-speed generator-motors for PTO/PTI/PTH systems. The choice of group depends on the layout of the ship power plant. The machines are built at the Dresden plant and supplied to system integrators and shipyards. They go to cruise liners, ferries, yachts, container ships, tankers and special vessels. The manufacturer regularly produces marine machines with a mass of up to 200 t.
The new series of low-speed shaft generators (in-line, PTO/PTI/PTH) is made in two variants. The first is a permanent-magnet synchronous machine (PMSG), the second an electrically excited synchronous machine of salient-pole design. The generators are mounted directly on the propeller shaft and have no bearings of their own. Depending on the torque, five frame sizes with shaft heights of 900, 1120, 1400, 1600 and 2000 mm are used. Power reaches 16 000 kVA (1800 kNm of mechanical torque), speed up to 150 rpm, voltage low or medium.
According to the catalog, PM shaft generators cover 500–15 000 kVA. A short circuit on the main switchboard or in the frequency converter creates an electromagnetic opposing field that can demagnetize the rotor of a PM machine. The manufacturer's machines withstand such faults under any conditions, and the rotor is not demagnetized. The winding is form-wound, insulation F/F, the water cooling circuit is redundant. The efficiency of PM machines is 2–4 % higher at full load and up to 10 % at partial load.
Medium-speed generators have a welded frame and are made with cylindrical or salient poles, with brushless excitation or with permanent magnets. Power up to 30 000 kVA, speed up to 750 rpm. They are equipped with digital controllers and monitoring systems, flange-mounted sleeve bearings or pedestal bearings with a lubrication system. High-speed compact generator-motors with a water jacket are rated for low voltage, power up to 4800 kVA and speed up to 1800 rpm.
Products for shipbuilding are certified by the classification societies DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, Bureau Veritas, RINA, CCS, PRS, Korean Register and ClassNK.
