Description
Hydro generators are designed and built for a specific hydropower plant and supplied turnkey to the customer's technical requirements. The range in the 2025 catalogue covers ratings from 300 kVA to 300 MVA at rated voltage up to 18.5 kV. The limits differ by turbine type: up to 250 MVA for Kaplan and Francis turbines, up to 120 MVA for Pelton turbines, and bulb generators up to 45 MVA. The programme also includes generators for Saxo turbines and reversible motor-generators for pumped storage stations.
The windings are made with VPI, Global VPI or Resin Rich (RR) insulation systems. Components and the machine as a whole are designed with in-house electromagnetic, ventilation and thermal calculation programs, as well as finite element and hydrodynamic simulation packages and network calculation software, including Neplan 360.
The main operations are carried out at the company's own plant in Zagreb (Croatia), from punching or laser cutting of stator laminations and core stacking to the manufacture of stator and rotor windings, fitting work, machining and assembly. For impregnation there is a vacuum pressure impregnation unit for windings with nanoparticles, IMPRMB VPI2R, as well as separate units for stator winding bars and for poles. The shop has a pole press PRC-P 1226, coil forming and winding machines, a pole coil brazing unit and balancing stands. Quality control covers incoming and mechanical inspection of materials and components, intermediate electrical tests during production and final electrical checks during commissioning at the station. Site installation is carried out by the company's own services together with local contractors.
An example of supply is three new generators for the Ering-Frauenstein hydropower plant on the Inn river on the Austrian-German border, for the customer Verbund. The parameters of each machine are 33.5 MVA, 10.5 kV, 68.2 rpm, 50 Hz, commissioned in 2022–2024. Because of the size of the machines, welding of the rotor spider, assembly of the rim and installation of the poles were done at the station, while core stacking and laying of the stator winding took place in a specially built tent next to it. The generators are used at hydropower plants with adjustable-blade (Kaplan), radial-axial (Francis), bucket (Pelton) and bulb turbines, and the reversible machines work at pumped storage stations.
