Hydrogenerators 10–420 MVA, 5–17 kV, and motor-generators for pumped storage plants
Synchronous hydrogenerators of the manufacturer rated 10–420 MVA at 50 Hz and 30–420 MVA at 60 Hz, with rated voltage of 5–17 kV. They work with Kaplan, Francis and Pelton turbines in new hydropower plants and replace old generators during refurbishment. The programme also includes reversible motor-generators for pumped storage plants.

Description
The company's experience in hydrogenerators spans about a hundred years, since the 1920s. The programme is divided into three groups by hydrological conditions. Generators for run-of-river plants have low and medium speed, those for high-head stations medium and high speed, and the third group covers motor-generators for pumped storage plants. The speed is 62.5–1000 rpm at 50 Hz and 75–1200 rpm at 60 Hz, and the number of poles is 6–96.
The machines are built vertical (IM8) or horizontal (IM7), installed in a pit or on the floor. The cooling method is IC8A1W7, the degree of protection is IP54, insulation is class F and excitation is static or brushless. Cooling is redundant, in a closed circuit. Air is moved by axial fans with adjustable blades or by radial ventilation, and reversible motor-generators are fitted with electric fans. For vertical machines with a high axial load, as on Kaplan turbines, thrust bearings with load equalization and, if needed, a self-pumping thrust collar are used. The thrust bearing is located on the drive side or on the opposite side.
Each machine is designed individually. The electromagnetic calculation defines the active parts, and then a configuration for the rating, voltage and speed is assembled from standard modules. The characteristics are then refined with account of transport and installation constraints, checking the electromagnetic, mechanical and thermal behaviour of the machine. The generators are designed for severe duty, frequent starts and stops, and short circuits. The reliability of the machine depends directly on the quality of the stator bar insulation. The heart of the generator is the stator winding with Resin Rich 4675 insulation, carried over from turbogenerators. Its thermal conductivity is twice that of the previous generation, so the bars run cooler and the service life of the generator grows.
The quality system covers all stages, from design and manufacture to factory tests, start-up and commissioning at the plant. Factory tests are carried out to IEC and IEEE standards. Online condition assessment and remote monitoring, EL CID diagnostics, high-voltage winding tests and vibration monitoring are available. Since 1950, 533 hydrogenerators with a total rating of about 27 GVA have been ordered. Experience in hydro and turbogenerators, in-house calculation tools and R&D programmes allow the company to repair, restore, refurbish and uprate generators of any technology and any manufacturer.
