Hydrogen-water-cooled turbogenerators up to 1200 MVA, 18–27 kV

Turbogenerators of the manufacturer with water-cooled stator winding and hydrogen-cooled rotor for the largest unit ratings, up to 1200 MVA. They are installed on large coal-fired and nuclear units and high-power combined cycle plants. The compact machine with water-cooled stator bars delivers very high power in limited dimensions.

Description

The programme has two groups of machines. Two-pole generators at 3000 rpm for 50 Hz grids have a rating of 400–1100 MVA, and at 3600 rpm for 60 Hz 30–420 MVA, with rated voltage of 18–27 kV and a power factor of 0.8–0.9. Four-pole machines at 1500 and 1800 rpm deliver up to 1200 MVA at voltages up to 26 kV and a power factor of 0.9. Such slow-speed generators work, among others, with steam turbines of nuclear power plants. The model is selected to match the turbine requirements, and each machine is adapted to the customer's specification.

The rotor is hydrogen-cooled by method IC 8 (H1) W7, with a hydrogen pressure of 4–7 bar. The stator winding has direct water cooling IC 9 (W7). The degree of protection is IP55 according to IEC 60034-5, insulation is class F and the mounting arrangement is IM7305. The machines comply with the PED and ATEX directives for safe operation in the presence of hydrogen. The stator core is stacked with intermediate pressing and finally consolidated, so that individual laminations do not loosen in service. All generators with water-cooled stators have laminated pressure plates, which reduce additional losses and remove local overheating.

The supply includes auxiliary systems that prepare and circulate the water and hydrogen for cooling and also supply oil to the shaft seals. The gas system maintains the pressure and purity of the hydrogen and replaces hydrogen with air through inert CO2 gas. The stator cooling water unit prepares, circulates and monitors neutral water with a very low oxygen content and low electrical conductivity, and for this it includes deaeration and deionization equipment, pumps and filters. The shaft seals are oil seals, with oil flowing into the gap between the shaft and the sealing rings. The seal oil unit supplies it at the required temperature, pressure and cleanliness. Excitation is fast static, which quickly adjusts the magnetic flux in the gap to the load and keeps a constant voltage at no load.

The design is developed by the company's own R&D, and calculations use three-dimensional finite element analysis of mechanics, electromagnetic processes and ventilation. The generators are installed indoors or outdoors, with soundproof walls or enclosures. Since 1950 the company has received orders for 62 such machines with a total rating above 30 GVA.
