Description
The hydrogenerators are manufactured by a power engineering works in Harbin (Heilongjiang province, China). It is one of three industry enterprises founded in the city in 1951. According to the group, large hydro units of its manufacture account for about half of the installed capacity of China's hydropower plants, and hydro equipment has been supplied to 369 stations with a total capacity of 134 GW.
The range covers generators for hydro units of all types: Francis (up to 1000 MW), axial Kaplan (up to 230–235 MW), bulb (up to 65 MW), Pelton and reversible pumped-storage units (up to 425 MW). Depending on rating and rotational speed, one of three cooling systems is used, namely fully air cooling, direct water cooling of the windings, or evaporative cooling.
The largest machines in the range, the 1000 MW hydro units at the Baihetan HPP, are the largest in the world by unit rating. In 2026 the works shipped to Pakistan the runner of a 504 MW unit for the extension of the Tarbela HPP (5th stage). This is the largest hydro unit by unit rating exported by China. Small units are also supplied to stations abroad, for example 3×31 MW bulb units at the Phu Tan II HPP in Vietnam (commissioned in 2023) and 3×15 MW at the Phu Tan I HPP.
The generators are supplied as part of the hydro unit together with the turbine, the excitation system (for units of 25–1200 MW), the governor with its oil pressure unit and the plant automation systems. Rated data on voltages and rotational speeds of individual machines are not given in the available materials and must be clarified with the manufacturer.
