Description
The hydro generators are produced at the plant in San Cipriano Picentino (Italy), which has a full cycle of design and manufacture of generators for hydropower plants. Each machine is designed and built to the requirements of a specific station, both for new facilities and for the refurbishment of existing ones. The plant is wholly owned by the manufacturer and specialises in the design, manufacture, repair and servicing of hydropower generators, as well as the modernisation of rotating electrical machines.
New generators have a rating of 1–60 MVA, a voltage from 690 to 18 000 V, horizontal or vertical design and a speed of up to 1500 rpm. Design is carried out to the customer's requirements (design on demand), and installation and commissioning are performed on site.
The manufacturer repairs, services and modernises large hydro generators worldwide in the range of 1–300 MVA, 690–18 000 V, in horizontal and vertical designs. The largest refurbished hydro generator has a rating of 300 MVA. Diagnostics, servicing and repair of electrical machines are performed both in the workshop and at the installation site. The plant can also supply individual components, including rotor poles and stator windings, and brushless excitation can be fitted to old generators with a static excitation system or a dynamo. Rotor poles and coils are made in various sizes and with various fixing methods, and stator windings are made of diamond coils or Roebel bars in Resin Rich or VPI technology. Experience covers rotor coils up to 300 MVA and stator bars up to 180 MVA.
For hydropower plants, excitation systems (Silcostat/STHP thyristor converters) and automation systems are supplied. The design is based on the manufacturer's synchronous machine technologies, including salient-pole or cylindrical rotors, winding insulation of the MICASYSTEM® VPI system, and calculation of electromagnetic, thermal, strength and rotor-dynamic characteristics for the parameters of the specific turbine. The portfolio also includes the first underwater tidal generator rated 1 MW with power electronics in the nacelle. Applications are small and large hydropower plants, refurbishment and replacement of hydro generators, and tidal installations.
