HTJ / HTL / HTM — synchronous turbogenerators with cylindrical rotor up to 65 MVA, 15 kV for steam and gas turbines

HTJ, HTL and HTM are series of high-voltage synchronous generators with a cylindrical (drum) rotor up to 65 MVA at voltage up to 15 kV for steam and gas turbines. The generator is coupled to the turbine through a gearbox. The series are installed at thermal power plants, CHP plants, waste-to-energy, biomass, geothermal and ORC plants.

Description

For steam and gas turbines, four-pole drum-type generators are normally used. This is the design the manufacturer uses for the highest outputs, with shaft height up to 1400 mm. The program for thermal plants covers outputs from 1000 kVA to 65 MVA, low-voltage versions have 400–690 V, high-voltage 2300–15 000 V. The gearbox can be taken from the same supplier. The manufacturer completes the generator plus gearbox package with Voith BHS gearboxes, and the compact E-Pack unit with a flange-mounted planetary gearbox is assembled and tested at the plant.

The series differ in cooling. HTJ is open, IC01 (ODP), degree of protection IP23, frame sizes 630–1600, up to 65 MVA. HTL is enclosed, with an IC611 (TEAAC) air-to-air heat exchanger and external IC616/IC666 fans, IP55, frame sizes 630–1400, up to 57 MVA. HTM is also enclosed, with an IC81W air-to-water heat exchanger, IP55, frame sizes 630–1600, up to 65 MVA. For the self-ventilated version with ducted air supply IC31 the limit is 25 MVA, degree of protection up to IP54. The choice between the series is often determined by the machine hall. Open HTJ needs clean air, HTL needs no water, and HTM is installed where a cooling water circuit exists.

The standard number of poles is 4, up to 16 on request. Mounting arrangements are IM B3 and IM V1, stator insulation class F or H, rotor F. Excitation is brushless, from an AC exciter with a permanent magnet pilot exciter (PMG), with various automatic excitation regulators. On request the manufacturer supplies digital voltage regulators and complete generator control cabinets with protection and synchronization. The generators are built to IEC 60034. Explosion-protected versions Ex n, Ex e and Ex p are available, as well as special designs for marine use and nuclear plants.

An example of supply is an air-to-air HTLF generator of 11 kV, 45 320 kVA, 1500 rpm, weighing 91 t, for a combined-cycle power plant. Generators of this class suit as an alternative to turbogenerators of the Т-6, Т-12, ТПС and ТФ series of small and medium output. For a replacement, state the output, voltage, turbine speed, whether a gearbox is present, the type of cooling that can be arranged in the machine hall, and the requirements for the excitation system.
