Description
For hydro units the manufacturer mostly builds salient-pole machines with low speed and a large number of poles. Poles are fixed with bolts or a dovetail joint, and in small machines the rotor lamination is laser-cut in one piece. The generator is designed for increased runaway speed and additional radial and axial loads. For small and medium hydropower plants outputs start from 100 kVA and reach 50 000 kVA. The design is horizontal or vertical, with usually 4 to 50 poles, voltage from 400 V to 15 kV, frequency 50 or 60 Hz.
HSJ has open cooling IC01 and degree of protection IP23, and is made horizontal, vertical (IM8025) or for installation in a shaft (IM8425), up to 50 MVA. HSV, self-ventilated with ducted air supply IC31, has protection IP54 and output up to 25 MVA with 10 poles. HSM is enclosed, with air-to-water cooling IC81W/IC86W, IP55, frame size up to 2000–2600, up to 50 MVA. Stator insulation is class F or H, rotor F. Excitation is brushless as standard, from an AC exciter with PMG and AVR, static on request.
The design can be supplemented with a flywheel. Bearing assemblies are made with flanged end shields for machines under 100 t, and for heavier ones, under 200 t, with pedestal bearings or spider supports. With the generators the manufacturer supplies digital voltage regulators and control cabinets with protection and synchronization, and for pumped storage plants also frequency converters.
Supply examples show the range of the series well. An HSM generator for a hydropower plant with a Pelton turbine is rated 11 kV, 22 470 kVA, 500 rpm. An HSJ for a plant with a Kaplan turbine is rated 6.3 kV, 16 500 kVA, 300 rpm, and was supplied for refurbishment. Another generator for a Pelton turbine is rated 10.5 kV, 15 000 kVA, 1000 rpm. The manufacturer's machines operate, among others, at the Rothleiten, Gries, Tumpen, Koksay and Giresun hydropower plants.
The series suit as an alternative to hydro generators СГ, ВГС and ГС of small and medium output. For selection, state the output, voltage, speed and turbine type, vertical or horizontal design, runaway speed, axial loads, and the cooling conditions in the machine hall.
