Description
The G2.R, GE.R and G4.R series comprise three-phase squirrel-cage induction generators rated up to 710 kVA. They are built on the basis of induction motors. The generators are offered as an inexpensive alternative to synchronous machines that is easy to maintain, for small and medium renewable energy installations. These are small hydropower plants and wind turbines, as well as recovery of braking energy in industrial drives and stand-alone power supply together with diesel engines.
An induction generator operates when the rotor turns faster than synchronous speed. It draws reactive power from the grid and supplies active power to it. In parallel operation the generator is connected to the grid by a circuit breaker, and the grid holds voltage and frequency, so separate regulators and synchronising devices are not needed. In stand-alone mode excitation is provided by a capacitor bank connected in parallel. This mode is used for lower ratings, and the generator in it is sensitive to inductive load and changes in speed.
The catalogue contains selection data, namely active power and reactive power consumption at full load. The reactive power drawn by the generator is taken into account when connecting it, so it is given separately. There are also documentation requirements under the rules for connection to the low-voltage grid, VDE-AR-N 4105. The original G21R and G22R series are supplemented by the GE1R and GE2R series, whose design is based on IE2 class motors.
Frame sizes 132–355. Speeds 1500, 1000, 750, 600 and 500 rpm, lower on request. Degree of protection IP55, optionally IP56 or IP65. Mounting arrangements IM B3, B35, B5, B14 and B34 per EN 60034-7, cooling IC411, IC416 or IC410 per EN 60034-6. Standard conditions are a coolant temperature of −20…+40 °C and an installation altitude of up to 1000 m. Optionally the generators are fitted with an iID 2000 RFID transponder carrying the rating plate data.
The generators are made at plants in Germany. An EU declaration of conformity for induction machines is supplied with them. They are used in small hydro units, low-power wind turbines, cogeneration plants and diesel generator sets.
