Description
The turbogenerators are developed and manufactured in Weiz (Austria), where production began in the 1950s and the first machine was assembled in 1958. Since then more than 1 380 turbogenerators with a total output of more than 147 000 MVA have been built for more than 75 countries. More than 150 four-pole machines have been supplied, including both small units and machines at the upper limit of the range. They are used for the own needs of enterprises and in combined-cycle plants.
On the website the four-pole range is given as 10–56 MVA, in the brochure as up to 60 MVA. A speed of 1 500 or 1 800 rpm corresponds to 50 and 60 Hz networks, and the rated voltage is 3.3–13.8 kV. The design allows a cylindrical laminated rotor or a salient-pole rotor, a housing of standardized dimensions and bearings in the end shields. The stator winding is of coil or bar type, and the insulation is made using global (GVPI) or individual (VPI) vacuum pressure impregnation. Cooling is closed-circuit air/water (TEWAC), air/air (CACA) or open ventilation. Excitation is brushless or static, at the customer's request.
A large number of frame sizes and active part lengths makes it possible to select the electrical parameters and efficiency for the conditions of the plant. A simplified foundation plate speeds up alignment and installation, and the machine is supplied as a packaged unit for a short installation cycle. Noise and vibration levels are low. The manufacturer has its own welding and machining capacities for turbogenerators. The four-pole range is complemented by two-pole air-cooled machines for 50–220 MVA. The scope of supply may include a generator control panel (GCP) with THYNE excitation, protection, synchronization, LV/MV cabinets and busducts.
Historical milestones: 1977, the first 4-pole turbogenerator, 1.25 MVA, 6.6 kV. In 1993 a machine of 36 MVA, 6.3 kV was delivered, and in 1996 one of 50 MVA, 10.5 kV, 1 500 rpm. Applications are industrial combined heat and power plants, cogeneration, biomass and waste heat recovery plants, and pulp and paper and metallurgical works.
