Description

For railway locomotives the manufacturer produces specialised generator systems. The traction generator of a diesel locomotive performs two main functions. It supplies traction power for the locomotive drive and generates electricity for the auxiliary systems that support the operation of the locomotive equipment and passenger comfort.

Specific output and voltage values of traction generators are not given in public materials, because the machines are designed for a specific locomotive and diesel engine. Therefore mounting dimensions, weight and speed are agreed for the specific machine. The basic versions are the same as for the manufacturer's other generators. Horizontal and vertical versions, rolling or sliding bearings, all cooling types and protection degrees IP21–IP66 are possible. The rotor can be cylindrical, salient-pole, squirrel-cage or with permanent magnets, and the final version is agreed with the customer for the specific locomotive and diesel engine. According to the manufacturer, its generators are also used in other industrial and transport systems, including marine ones.

For rail transport the manufacturer holds welding certification according to EN 15085-2, issued by TÜV NORD, as well as the ČD V95 certificate of Czech Railways, which confirms approval to manufacture welded structures of rolling stock. The EN 15085-2 certificate is issued for class CL1, the highest level for welding load-bearing elements of railway vehicles. The documents also include a class CL2 certificate.

The product is aimed at locomotive manufacturers and repair companies that need a generator for a specific diesel engine. A request needs the locomotive type, the output and speed of the diesel engine, the traction circuit voltage and the installation conditions. The certification relates not to the generator itself but to the manufacturer's welding production, that is, the making of welded structures of the machine and rolling stock units.

Besides traction generators, the manufacturer also makes traction motors for transport. In the motors section, traction is named among the special applications alongside marine drives and cable cars. The line of metallurgical DC motors has been developed since 1995, and generators for industry up to 4 MW have been produced since 2005.
