Description
The manufacturer developed turbine generators together with special motor-generator sets as demand grew in the 1990s and 2000s. According to the manufacturer, the turbine generators have ODP, CACW (air-to-water) or CACA (air-to-air) cooling, sleeve or rolling bearings, comply with the main international standards and are supplied with accessories to project requirements. They are designed to IEC, NEMA and ISO standards, meeting grid code requirements, for power supply to networks and peak coverage. The plant's quality management system is certified by BSI to ISO 9001:2015 for the design, manufacture and service of synchronous generators, motors and motor-generator sets.
The generator is brushless, AC, with a rotating field. The standard version is drip-proof; options include air filtration, an air-to-air (TEAAC) or air-to-water (TEWAC) heat exchanger in the upper casing, Weather Protected II, protection classes IP22, IP23, IP25, IP44 and IP54, and sealed windings. The stator core is stacked from electrical steel sheets in a welded steel frame with support plates. The winding is made of insulated copper coils, and the whole stator is vacuum pressure impregnated with resin (VPI). Frame sizes in the guide are designated from 4P10 to 4P75.
The rotor is salient-pole, with the pole coils wound from winding wire and spacers placed between the poles. The damper winding of copper or aluminium bars is soldered to end plates, the rotor is also VPI impregnated, and the shaft is made of high-strength rolled or forged steel. The sleeve bearings are self-aligning, with their own ring lubrication or forced oil supply, RTD temperature sensors and an insulating liner against bearing currents. The bearing housings have provision for clearance sensors and a phase marker. Excitation is brushless, from a pilot exciter with a rotating three-phase rectifier, and a permanent magnet pilot exciter (PMG) powers the voltage regulator.
For rotor condition monitoring the manufacturer offers the KRM2000 system; for protection there are diode failure detection modules and reverse power relays. Before installation the generator is stored at temperatures from −18 to 49 °C and relative humidity below 60%. Applications include industrial CHP and cogeneration, gas and steam turbine power stations, peak-load plants and oil and gas facilities.
