Air-cooled turbogenerators 20–450 MVA, 10.5–21 kV
Two-pole air-cooled turbogenerators of the manufacturer rated 20–450 MVA at 50 Hz and 30–320 MVA at 60 Hz. They work together with gas and steam turbines in combined cycle plants, open-cycle gas turbine plants and steam turbine units for base and peak load, including daily starts and stops.

Description
The range covers 20–450 MVA for 50 Hz grids and 30–320 MVA for 60 Hz grids, and the model is selected to match the requirements of the specific turbine. The machine is compact and its maintenance is simple and inexpensive, so it is used both in base load units and in peaking plants that start daily. The rotor is cylindrical, with a speed of 3000 rpm at 50 Hz or 3600 rpm at 60 Hz. The generator sits on the same shaft line as a gas or steam turbine, in single-shaft and multi-shaft arrangements. There are few auxiliary systems, so the unit is easier to control and less money goes to spare parts. Rated voltage is 10.5–21 kV at 50 Hz and 13.8–21 kV at 60 Hz, with a power factor of 0.8 and 0.85 respectively.
The stator winding is cooled indirectly and the rotor winding directly. The machine is self-ventilated, with air circulating in a closed circuit through air-to-water coolers, and the cooling methods are IC 9 A1 W7 and IC 8 A1 W7. If the air at the site is polluted, special make-up filters or activated carbon filters are fitted. Insulation is class F, the degree of protection is IP54 or IP55 according to IEC 60034-5, and the mounting arrangements are IM7305, IM7315 and IM7316. Excitation is static as standard, and brushless excitation is supplied as a special version.
The generator is installed indoors or outdoors, with soundproof walls or enclosures. For geothermal plants the manufacturer selects materials resistant to humidity and hydrogen sulfide H2S and has wide experience of such deliveries. For explosive atmospheres there is a version with ATEX certification, whose design does not let explosive gas mixtures inside. Each machine is adapted to the technical requirements of the specific customer. After the turbine is disconnected, the generator can operate as a synchronous condenser.
The design has proved robust and repairable in service and is continuously improved by the company's own R&D. Calculations use three-dimensional finite element analysis of mechanical, electrical and ventilation processes. Since 1950 the company has received orders for about 602 such generators with a total rating above 70 GVA. More than 370 of these machines were ordered for open-cycle and combined-cycle gas turbines.
