VISI-SWITCH of the OLB-400 series is a three-phase load break switch for 12 and 15 kV overhead lines at 800 A with solid insulation and a visible internal break. The current is switched by a vacuum interrupter, and the isolating gap is created by a series air disconnector in a polymer housing. The SF6-free device is offered as a replacement for SF6 and air load break switches.

Description
The series arrangement separates the functions. A vacuum interrupter makes and breaks the current, and an air isolating disconnector, operating after it, creates the visible gap. The current-carrying system is encapsulated in a solid dielectric, and the external insulation is made of silicone bushings and silicone covers with the required clearances. The device is housed in a sealed powder-coated stainless steel tank and needs no maintenance over its 30-year service life.
The state of the disconnector is seen through an inspection window of impact-resistant glass. The isolating contact is painted with reflective red paint, so the lineman can see its position from the ground at a distance of up to 30 m and visually confirm that the line is switched off. The window is scratch-resistant and designed for 30 years outdoors without loss of transparency. All parts, including the window, have an impact resistance class of IK08. Internal arc gases are vented outward, and arc withstand is 16 kA for 0.2 s.
The OLB-12-16-800 and OLB-15-16-800 models have a rated current of 800 A, a short-circuit making current of 16 kA, a short-time withstand current of 16 kA for 3 s and a peak current of 42 kA. The device classes are E3 for electrical endurance, C1 for capacitive current switching and M2 for mechanical endurance. The mechanical endurance and the endurance at full load are 10 000 operations each. The power-frequency test voltage is, depending on the model, 28 or 50 kV, and across the visible gap of the disconnector 32 or 55 kV. The degree of protection is IP65, operating temperatures are from −20 to +55 °C, installation altitude is up to 1000 m and the frequency is 50 / 60 Hz.
The switch is mounted on wooden poles using a keyhole bracket or on concrete poles using strap clamps, above or below the line. The bracket is placed above or below the crossarm. The assembled device is lifted by crane, pole-mounted hoists or an aerial lift, and the housing has rigging points for this. The switch is operated from the ground with a single movement of a hot stick or through an insulated rod down the pole. Surge arresters can be fitted to all six bushings, earthed through the tank.
In the ordering code, the user selects the version by voltage, the terminal type, 304 or 316 steel, bird protection, surge arresters, bracket, rod, position lock, operation counter, 3 m XLPE cable tails and the language (English, Portuguese, Spanish or Russian).
