Description
BSR and SWR12 are original equipment (OEM) breakers for retrofit. They replace the withdrawable elements in medium-voltage switchgear in service without modification of the panels, without civil works and without re-routing high-voltage cables. Both units use vacuum interrupters and an award-winning magnetic actuator, are rated for 10,000 operations and a service life of 30 years, and are made to IEC 62271-100. Closing is performed by the magnetic actuator, and opening by springs charged during closing.
BSR is intended for VSI/VTD series switchgear with oil circuit breakers (designed in 1963) and VMV with vacuum breakers (1990). Rated voltage 12 kV, currents 630, 1250 and 2000 A, lightning impulse 75/95 kV, short-duration test voltage 28 kV. Breaking current and three-second withstand current 25 kA, making current 62.5 kA, frequency 50 Hz. Control voltage 30, 48/50, 110/125 V DC, own opening/closing time 33/76 ms, weight 211 kg. The retrofit removes oil from the system, and panel interlocks are brought up to current ENA requirements.
SWR12 is a breaker for C and D series switchgear (D4X breaker, 1970) and for the SF₆ HG12/Hawkgas12 with vertical insulation (1990). Rated voltage 12 kV, currents 400/630, 800 and 1250 A, lightning impulse 75 kV, short-duration voltage 28 kV, breaking current 25 kA, withstand 25 kA for 3 s, making current 62.5 kA. Duty cycle O–0.3 s–CO–15 s–CO, time 33/76 ms, weight 211 kg. It removes oil or SF₆ from the system.
Both models use the existing design of primary and automatic secondary contacts and need practically no maintenance. The service life of the switchgear is noticeably extended, and the owner spends less on operation. They are used for modernisation of 6–11 kV switchgear of the British and export fleet in networks, industry, oil and gas, and renewable sites. The actuator based on a solenoid with permanent magnet latching is patented and requires no maintenance. The switchgear is manufactured in Blackwood (South Wales).
