Description

Horizon is an outdoor, ground-mounted circuit breaker for distribution network substations. It is built in the dead tank design, meaning that the tank is at earth potential. Arc interruption takes place in vacuum interrupters placed in the controlled environment of an SF₆-filled tank, which also contains any internal arc. The lightweight aluminium tank simplifies transport and installation. The breaker is suitable for live tank and dead tank schemes. Horizon Compact is built for a substation frame, post or support and for voltages up to 27 kV.

Versions are available for 15.5, 27 and 38 kV (Horizon Compact up to 27 kV). Rated current 1250 A, and 2000 A for 38 kV as well. Breaking current 25 kA, and 31.5 kA for 38 kV as well. Duty cycle O–0.3 s–CO–15 s–CO, making current 65 kA (82 kA), three-second short-time withstand 25 kA (31.5 kA). Impulse withstand voltage 95, 125 and 170/200 kV, one-minute dry 28, 50 and 80 kV, wet 10 s 80 kV. Frequency 50/60 Hz.

Control voltage 110 V DC, 110/125 V for 38 kV, optionally 48 and 220 V. Operating temperature from −50 to +50 °C. Weight 294 kg for 15.5–27 kV and 800 kg for 38 kV. Silicone bushings have an increased creepage distance of 1550 mm and are damage-resistant. The supports are adjustable and made to order.

The actuator is magnetic, without electronic control. It is a solenoid with a plunger held in the closed and open positions by a permanent magnet. The actuator is patented, has received industry awards and requires no maintenance. Current transformers are built into the bushings outside the gas volume, so they are easy to replace or add. A mechanical position indicator is visible from the ground through an inspection window. On the side of the tank there is a manual operating handle with interlocking, and the pressure relief diaphragm complies with IEC 60298. The control cabinet houses auxiliary equipment and protection relays of the customer's choice.

The breakers are used by network companies, in industry, oil and gas, renewables and infrastructure. They can be combined with other products of this manufacturer into compact substations or used to upgrade existing substations by replacing obsolete equipment. The switchgear is manufactured in Blackwood (South Wales).
