Description
The design is based on the mechanical linkage and vacuum arc interruption that the manufacturer has used for 20 years. Each pole contains a copper current path, solid polymer dielectric insulation with improved heat dissipation, an actuator, a vacuum interrupter and a radiator for heat removal. It is the heat dissipation of the dielectric and the shape of the radiator that made it possible to bring SF6-free technology to the substation level at a rated current of 2500 A.
Each pole has two trip coils and one close coil. To trip all three phases, operation of two of the six trip coils is sufficient. The breaker is offered in a standard version and in a version with full parallel redundancy, which has a separate independent electronic control system. The secondary wiring cabinet holds two parallel electronics systems and has spare room for terminal blocks and substation measurement circuits. Up to six current transformers can be fitted on each phase.
The maximum operating voltage is 40.5 kV, the short-circuit making current is 82 kA (peak), and the short-time withstand current is 31.5 kA for 3 s. The lightning impulse withstand voltage (BIL) is 220 kV, and the power-frequency withstand voltage, dry and wet, is 95 kV. Mechanical endurance corresponds to class M2 with a life of 10,000 operations, and at maximum breaking current the unit withstands 50 operations. The capacitive current switching class is C2 and the electrical endurance class is E2. The operating duty cycle is O–0.3 s–CO–15 s–CO at a frequency of 50 / 60 Hz.
The breaker is classified for internal arc withstand. The tank is double earthed, and the energy of an internal arc fault is vented back, away from operating personnel. Compared with live tank breakers, this arrangement is safer for people working near equipment in an open-air switchyard.
The design service life is 50 years, and the breaker needs no scheduled maintenance during its service life. The product complies with IEC 62271-100 and IEEE C37.06, so it can be specified in projects based on either European or American standards.
