LW67 550 / 800 kV SF6 dead tank circuit breakers
The LW67-550 and LW67-800 are outdoor three-phase dead tank SF6 circuit breakers for 500 and 750 kV lines and substations. They were developed on the basis of the company's GIS technologies, and the breaking current of both units is 63 kA. The breakers are installed in switchyards of substations, large thermal power plants and converter substations, including in seismically active regions.

Description
In the dead tank design the interrupter is placed in an earthed tank rather than on an insulating column as in live tank breakers. Built-in current transformers are fitted on the bushings, so separate CTs are not needed at the substation and the seismic withstand of the unit is higher. By purpose they are equivalents of dead tank breakers of the 500–750 kV class. The 800 kV unit operates, among others, at the Wucaiwan-Bei-1 power plant in Zhongdong.
The LW67-800(W)/Y5000-63 consists of a circuit breaker, current transformers, air bushings and a control cabinet. Rated voltage 800 kV, rated current 5000 A, breaking current 63 kA. The power frequency test voltage is 960 kV to earth and 960 + 462 kV across the open gap, and the lightning impulse is 2100 kV and 2100 + 650 kV. The aluminium alloy housing is light, corrosion-resistant and low-loss. Mechanical endurance is up to 10,000 operations, and electrical endurance is up to 20 full short-circuit current interruptions. The operating mechanism is hydraulic-spring or spring, as chosen, the switching work is low, and overvoltages during closing are suppressed. The breaker passed type tests to GB and DL and meets IEC requirements.
The LW67-550(W)/Y4000, 5000-63 was created for 500 kV networks on the manufacturer's own intellectual property. Rated current 4000 or 5000 A, short-time withstand current 63 kA for 3 s, peak withstand current 171 kA, power frequency test voltage 740 kV to earth and 740 + 318 kV across the open gap. The unit passed all type tests to IEC and meets the maximum requirements of Chinese national standards. Breaking capacity is high, noise level is low, the design is compact, the control cabinet is three-phase and parameters remain stable during long operation.
Both breakers can be supplemented with online monitoring systems and intelligent maintenance tools for digital substations. A typical installation site is the 500 and 750 kV switchyards of substations and power plants, especially where built-in current transformers or high seismic withstand are required. The units operate on lines transmitting high power over long distances between power systems. The LW67-800 is among the apparatus controlling and protecting extra-high-voltage lines, and the parameters of the LW67-550, according to the manufacturer, correspond to the international level.

Questions and answers
For which networks are the LW67 breakers intended?
The LW67-550 is installed in 500 kV networks and the LW67-800 in 750 kV networks. Both operate in switchyards of substations and power plants.
What endurance does the LW67-800 breaker have?
Mechanical endurance up to 10,000 operations, electrical endurance up to 20 interruptions of the full 63 kA short-circuit current.
How does a dead tank breaker differ from a live tank one?
The interrupter is placed in an earthed tank, and built-in current transformers are fitted on the bushings. Separate CTs are not needed, and seismic withstand is higher.
