Description
KSTAR UD is a series of three-phase double-conversion online UPS rated from 10 to 80 kVA. Input and output are three-phase (3:3), and the power factor is 0.9. The manufacturer positions the series as the economical option in its range: the combination of a high power factor and the ECO mode reduces operating costs. Typical applications are server and industrial sites that need continuous power without voltage surges.
Control is performed in real time by a digital signal processor (DSP). The online double-conversion topology means that the load is constantly supplied from the inverter and not directly from the mains. Mains disturbances do not reach the consumer, and the power supply is not interrupted.
To raise the level of protection, parallel operation in an N+X configuration is provided. The units are connected to each other, and redundant units are added to the calculated number, so the failure of one unit does not disconnect the load. This redundancy is used where power availability matters more than savings on equipment.
In ECO mode the UPS supplies the load bypassing the double conversion while the mains is normal, and returns quickly to online mode if needed. This mode is intended for energy saving. The battery charging current is adjusted from the LCD screen and can be matched to the capacity of the installed batteries. The series is classed as transformerless online UPS.
When selecting a model in the 10–80 kVA range, the load power is checked against the rating and the power factor of 0.9. Whether parallel mode is needed and which N+X redundancy is acceptable for the site are determined separately. Battery parameters, dimensions and communication interfaces for a specific size are specified on request. The series is chosen when a three-phase double-conversion UPS is needed without unnecessary functions and at a moderate cost. For server rooms the power factor of 0.9 and N+X redundancy are important, and for industrial sites the load profile and installation conditions are also taken into account. The number of parallel units is determined by a fault-tolerance calculation. The size from the 10–80 kVA range is selected with a power margin relative to the peak load.
