Description
KSTAR EPI and Master are two ranges of transformer-based online UPS with three-phase input and single-phase output (3:1). The power of EPI is 8–40 kVA and of Master 6–40 kVA. The topology is online, with an isolation transformer.
The manufacturer describes EPI as a UPS for maximum protection and power quality for any load, primarily a critical one. The input power factor of EPI reaches 0.97, and in Master it is 0.8. The input voltage of Master is 304–456 V AC.
The topology works on double-conversion technology with zero transfer time, so the load does not feel the loss of the mains. Better compatibility with diesel generators is noted separately, which matters for sites where backup power is built on a UPS plus generator combination.
The fields of application are listed as follows: financial and telecom systems, power engineering, medicine and industrial processes. For EPI the manufacturer separately lists critical applications, data centers, security systems, electromedical equipment, industrial processes and telecommunications.
When choosing between EPI and Master, the load power is checked against the range of 6–40 kVA, together with the input power factor. The dimensions, weight, battery type and additional options are specified on request, because there is no data on them in the information provided. Both ranges share a topology with an isolation transformer, which galvanically separates the output from the mains and reduces the effect of interference on the load. Online mode means the load is constantly supplied from the inverter, and the battery picks it up without transfer. Therefore the ranges suit systems where even a short failure is unacceptable, including financial, telecommunication and medical ones. Master has an input power factor of 0.8, and its input voltage of 304–456 V AC is taken into account when connecting to the mains. The 3:1 phase configuration means a three-phase connection to the mains and single-phase consumers at the output. EPI starts at 8 kVA and Master at 6 kVA, so Master is the sensible choice for small loads. For both ranges the battery type and capacity are selected for the required backup time, and service options are specified on request.
