Description
KSTAR HPM Lithium-ion UPS is a modular three-phase uninterruptible power system supplied with KLi lithium-ion battery racks. The HPM family is designed for maximum power availability: the power of a single UPS is increased up to 1200 kW, and up to 8 UPS can be placed in parallel. The base of the line by power is the HPM3300E in the subrack version at 40–150 kVA.
The power units are hot-swappable, which shortens maintenance time to 5 minutes. A shorter repair time directly increases system availability. The manufacturer also notes a high power density, a smaller footprint and simple capacity expansion by modules.
The topology is three-level, and efficiency reaches 96.5 %. The input power factor is up to 0.99. The wide input voltage range of 138–485 V AC means the UPS switches to batteries less often, and the battery life is used more economically. There is a smart sleep mode for energy saving, which the manufacturer links to a longer system service life.
The UPS is controlled through a 7 or 10-inch touch LCD screen. The energy storage is the KLi lithium-ion racks. The options for fitting out with racks, the number of modules and the backup time parameters are selected for a specific site and specified on request.
The modular design means the system does not have to be ordered for the final load. First the required number of modules is installed, and as consumption grows new ones are added up to the limit of 1200 kW. Parallel connection of up to 8 UPS carries the same idea to the level of whole systems and gives a reserve in case one of them fails. The high power density and smaller footprint that the manufacturer lists among the advantages save space in the equipment room. The wide input voltage range of 138–485 V AC reduces the load on the batteries, because the UPS switches to batteries less often when the mains fluctuates. The three-level topology, the 7 and 10-inch touch screens and the input power factor of up to 0.99 are part of the basic description of the system. The storage capacity and the backup time depend on the number of KLi racks, so they are calculated for a specific load profile.
