Description

KSTAR UCR is an online UPS rated 6–10 kVA with a 3:1 phase ratio, that is, three-phase input and single-phase output. The power factor is 0.9. The case is convertible, so the unit is mounted in a rack or placed separately as a tower. This flexibility is useful in server rooms and communication nodes, where the equipment layout changes over time.

It is based on a true double-conversion topology controlled by a digital signal processor (DSP). The input voltage is first rectified and then converted back to AC, so the load is isolated from the mains. The manufacturer describes this as protecting the critical load from any short-term disturbances and voltage deviations. At the output the UPS forms a clean voltage with better parameters than the mains. The UPS takes power from a three-phase mains and supplies the output loads with a single phase, so the series is chosen when three phases come from the switchboard and the equipment needs one. DSP control reads the parameters in real time and keeps the output within the set limits.

To improve availability, parallel operation in an N+X configuration is provided. Redundant units are added to the required number of units that carry the load, and the failure of one of them does not stop the power supply. This structure increases system availability and the mean time between failures (MTBF), which is essential where equipment downtime is unacceptable. The manufacturer directly names parallel redundancy as a means of protecting critical devices.

The display is rotatable, the screen rotation direction is set in the settings, so the readings are equally convenient to read in a rack and in the vertical position. The emergency power off (EPO) function is provided. In the manufacturer's catalog the series is classed as transformerless online UPS.

When selecting KSTAR UCR, the load power is checked against the rating of 6–10 kVA and the power factor of 0.9 is taken into account, since it determines the active power the UPS delivers. Whether N+X parallel mode is needed and how many units to keep in reserve are decided separately. The battery type and quantity, as well as the options for connection to a monitoring system, are specified on request, because they are not given in the available data.
