KSTAR Micropower / Microsine / DG / AIO — line-interactive UPS, 400–3000 VA
The KSTAR Micropower, Microsine, DG and AIO lines are line-interactive UPS units rated from 400 to 3000 VA. The automatic voltage regulator evens out the mains without switching to battery. They are used for PCs and office equipment.

Description
The group comprises four lines of KSTAR line-interactive UPS units: Micropower at 400–3000 VA, DG at 600–3000 VA, Microsine at 1000–2000 VA and AIO at 600–1000 VA. All of them are intended for personal computers and office equipment, where protection against poor mains is needed without the cost of an online UPS.
Protection is based on an AVR automatic voltage regulator with boost and buck modes. It holds the output voltage within limits while the input varies within the ranges 81–145, 140–300 and 162–290 V AC, and it does not use battery life to do so. According to the KSTAR description, the unit cuts off surges, overvoltages, voltage sags and a complete loss of supply.
The output waveform depends on the line. Micropower, DG and AIO deliver a stepped sine wave, which most computer power supplies tolerate. Microsine works with a pure sine wave, so it is chosen for loads sensitive to waveform shape.
The built-in battery charges automatically while the mains is normal. When the voltage returns, the UPS restarts by itself and no operator intervention is needed. For end users this means that after an overnight outage the workplaces get power again without calling staff. In normal mode the load is fed from the mains through the AVR, and the inverter switches on only when the voltage leaves the permitted limits or the mains fails completely. This design is simpler and cheaper than a double-conversion online UPS and runs cooler. It is chosen for offices, small server cabinets, network equipment and checkout points. For equipment sensitive to waveform shape, it is better to take the Microsine with a pure sine wave. Backup time depends on the load and the capacity of the built-in battery.
Compact dimensions and low weight reduce installation cost: the UPS is placed under a desk, on a shelf or in a small cabinet. Power is selected from the total consumption of the connected equipment in VA with a margin, and an AIO model is chosen for all-in-one PCs and compact workstations.

Questions and answers
What power ratings do the KSTAR Micropower and DG UPS units have?
Micropower is available at 400–3000 VA and DG at 600–3000 VA. Microsine has 1000–2000 VA and AIO 600–1000 VA.
What output waveform do these UPS units provide?
Micropower, DG and AIO deliver a stepped sine wave. Microsine gives a pure sine wave.
What is the AVR needed for in a line-interactive UPS?
The AVR works in boost and buck modes and evens out the input voltage within 81–145, 140–300 or 162–290 V AC. The battery is not discharged in the process.
