Description
KSTAR HPM3300E-T is a series of high-power high-frequency online UPS rated 200–1000 kVA in the tower (floor-standing) version. The manufacturer intends them to solve most power problems, including complete mains loss, overvoltage, sudden voltage sags and decaying oscillations. The topology is transformerless, and the output power factor is 1.0.
The topology is three-level, the efficiency reaches 96 %, and the total harmonic distortion of the input current THDi is below 3 %. The input voltage range of 138–485 V is wide, so the UPS tolerates an unstable mains well. The load can be fully inductive or capacitive, and compatibility with generators is confirmed by the manufacturer. Power is increased by parallel operation of up to 8 UPS.
For harsh operating conditions the boards have an enhanced conformal coating. This coating is designed for industrial sites with an unfavorable environment. The batteries can be VRLA or lithium, so the storage type is chosen for the project.
Control and diagnostics are performed through a 7 or 10-inch touch LCD screen. The event log and the fault log can be exported from it. Communication with upper-level systems is provided by SNMP, RS232/RS485, BMS interfaces and dry contacts. This simplifies connection to dispatch systems and battery monitoring systems.
When selecting a power from the range 200–1000 kVA, the calculated load, the types of consumers and the required number of parallel units are checked. The battery type, capacity and installation conditions are specified on request. The high conversion frequency and the three-level topology give an efficiency of 96 %, which reduces heat losses at the site. Low input current harmonics (THDi below 3 %) and the input range of 138–485 V make it easier to match the UPS with the mains and the generator. The manufacturer singles out compatibility with generators, because for large sites a diesel generator often serves as the backup. Parallel units, up to 8 UPS, give a power margin and the possibility of taking one of them out for service. The history and fault logs, which can be exported, help to analyze events after accidents. The choice between VRLA and lithium batteries depends on the site requirements for backup time, floor area and maintenance cost.
