SION 3AE5, 3AE6 and 3AE3 vacuum circuit breakers for air-insulated medium-voltage switchgear, up to 36 kV and up to 40 kA. They are built into new panels and fitted during retrofit of old 6–35 kV switchgear. The series covers IEC and IEEE/ANSI standards.

Description
SION is a platform of vacuum circuit breakers for building into air-insulated medium-voltage switchgear. The devices are supplied to switchgear manufacturers, i.e. panel builders, and for retrofit of existing panels. All types of the platform share common accessories and are configured online with three-dimensional visualization. The vacuum interrupters are the manufacturer's own.
The SION 3AE5 breaker is universal, for IEC standards. Rated voltage is up to 36 kV, breaking current up to 40 kA, rated current up to 4000 A, endurance up to 30,000 switching operations. Various pole spacings and vertical connection dimensions are provided, secondary equipment is freely configurable, and the withdrawable components are modular. The breaker can therefore be built into practically any panel, both a new one and a historically grown one during modernization. In the fullest configuration it is supplied in a type-tested mounting frame that forms almost the entire breaker compartment.
SION 3AE6 is a compact breaker with a lateral (side-mounted) operating mechanism for secondary distribution up to 24 kV, 25 kA and 1250 A. The poles sit directly under the busbars, so the panel is narrower and the switchgear cheaper. The device is fixed-mounted, since secondary networks rarely need a withdrawable design. The poles are oriented to the left or to the right. SION 3AE3 is intended for IEEE/ANSI standards, up to 27 kV, 40 kA and 4000 A. It takes about 20 % less space than conventional breakers. It is supplied fixed-mounted (withdrawable mechanisms and contacts can be made by the panel builder) or on a compact withdrawable truck with primary contacts; it is UL and CSA certified.
Applications include 6–35 kV switchgear in utility substations, industry and infrastructure. A separate task is the modernization of switchgear with obsolete low-oil and electromagnetic breakers, when the new device has to fit the existing dimensions. SION Frames and integration kits simplify such replacement.
