Description
Interrupting short-circuit currents near a generator is among the hardest tasks in medium-voltage networks. Such currents have a large aperiodic component, and the current zero crossing is delayed. SION 3AE2 and 3AK7 are compact vacuum circuit breakers for generator circuits. Both have passed type tests to the demanding generator standard IEC/IEEE 62271-37-013, which confirms their ability to perform such switching.
Unlike specialized high-power generator circuit breakers (3AH36/37/38), these devices are compact and fit standard switchgear panels. SION 3AE2 is part of the SION platform. It is rated for voltage up to 17.5 kV, breaking current up to 31.5 kA and rated current up to 4000 A, and is available fixed-mounted and withdrawable. Despite its generator ratings, it is just as narrow as breakers for standard applications and is compatible with all SION accessories, so it can be placed in the same compact switchgear together with other breakers of the family.
3AK7 is a compact all-in-one breaker for generator switching, transfer of high-power loads and frequent operations. Voltage is up to 17.5 kV, breaking currents up to 50 kA, rated currents up to 4000 A. It is tested to IEC 62271-100 and IEC/IEEE 62271-37-013 and withstands 30,000 operating cycles even under an intensive switching schedule. For the 3AK7, a catalog, operating instructions, drawings, 3D models and diagrams, and an online configurator are available.
Applications include generator circuits of small and medium power plants (gas-engine, gas-turbine and steam-turbine CHP plants, small hydro), industrial power plants, auxiliary-supply switchgear, and systems with frequent load transfer.
