Description
The three-phase SF6 load break switches operate on overhead lines of the 15.5, 25.8 and 36 kV classes. The 15.5 kV model passed type tests at CESI in 2014–2015, and the whole series was tested at KEMA, CESI or KERI to IEC 62271-103.
The drive is built on a spring toggle mechanism, so the closing and opening speed does not depend on the operator. The arc is extinguished by SF6 on the self-compression (puffer) principle. The bushings are epoxy with a silicone housing. The switch tank and the control cabinet are made of stainless steel and withstand heat, humidity, dust and corrosive environments. The device is operated manually or by a built-in motor drive, with a declared service life of 5000 operations.
Frequency is 50/60 Hz. Short-time withstand current is 16 kA for 15.5 kV and 12.5 kA for 1 s for 25.8 and 36 kV, with making capacity of 41.6 and 32.5 kA (peak) respectively. The 36 kV class insulation is rated for 170 kV impulse, 70 kV power frequency dry and 45 kV wet. The control circuits are powered from 110–220 V AC or 24 V DC, with a test voltage of 2 kV and an impulse of 6 kV. Operating temperature is −25…+70 °C.
The motorized version is supplied with the microprocessor controller ETMFC610, which measures, monitors and records parameters and supports communication, with a built-in RTU or separate digital control. For these LBS the company also offers the multifunction controller ETMFC101-N1 with RTU. It measures voltage, current and power, monitors phase loss and synchronism, blocks closing under load and shows faults by phase, zero-sequence and negative-sequence currents. The protocols are DNP3.0, MODBUS and IEC 60870-5-101/104, with support for PLC, PQM, GPS, IRIG and SMS.
With such a controller the switch becomes an automatic sectionalizer or a normal open point in loop automation schemes and is controlled remotely from SCADA. The switches are installed for sectionalizing and backup of 10–35 kV overhead networks, on taps to consumers and generation, in distribution automation systems.

Questions and answers
Which voltage classes are the SF6 load break switches rated for?
The series covers 15.5, 25.8 and 36 kV at 50/60 Hz. Typical use is in 10–35 kV overhead networks.
What short-time withstand current does the switch have?
The 15.5 kV model withstands 16 kA, the 25.8 and 36 kV models 12.5 kA for 1 s. Making capacity is 41.6 and 32.5 kA (peak).
How does the switch work in network automation?
With the ETMFC610 or ETMFC101-N1 controller it becomes an automatic sectionalizer or a normal open point. Communication with SCADA runs over DNP3.0, MODBUS and IEC 60870-5-101/104.
