Multi VCB, Auto.V, New-Auto.V — vacuum circuit breakers 3.6/7.2 kV with built-in protection
Multi VCB is a series of universal vacuum circuit breakers 3.6/7.2 kV, 400 and 600 A, with breaking currents of 8 and 12.5 kA for incoming and distribution medium-voltage cubicles. Auto.V and New-Auto.V, with built-in current transformers and protection relays, are built on its basis.

Description
The Multi VCB series is based on the earlier HA range, with the design refined for safety and ease of operation. The breakers are compact. The withdrawable version fits a cubicle 500 mm wide and 700 mm deep, and in a cabinet 2300 mm high up to four devices can be installed one above another, which saves switchroom area. Fixed versions B, C, P and withdrawable versions X, Y, U are available.
The manual spring-charged operating mechanism closes the device at a constant speed and needs half the force on the handle. The motor-spring mechanism has also been improved. The instant closing system gives a closing time of 30 ms when switching to a standby line, so the breaker suits automatic transfer switching schemes. Control circuits can be AC or DC, so the breaker connects to the substation's existing operating power source.
Auto.V has a built-in toroidal current transformer with a withstand of 12.5 kA for 1 s and an electronic overcurrent protection relay with settings of 24–320 A. No separate CTs or relays are needed on the cubicle front. The field of application of Auto.V covers 6 kV incoming and distribution switchgear of 170–2000 kVA, and selectivity is easily coordinated with low-voltage circuit breakers.
New-Auto.V is equipped with a wide-range CT and a multifunction digital relay. The overcurrent protection has settings of 15–390 A, an instantaneous stage with a multiple of 1–20 and a time characteristic with a multiplier of 0.5–100. The relay also provides directional earth-fault protection, zero-sequence overvoltage protection, and undervoltage and overvoltage protection. It measures current, voltage, power, power factor, frequency and zero-sequence voltage, and has four analog outputs and an RS-485 interface. New-Auto.V is used in installations of 170–4400 kVA.
The breakers comply with the Japanese standard JIS C 4603 and are intended primarily for the Japanese market. For 6 kV networks they are considered as vacuum circuit breakers with built-in relay protection, in which measurement and protection are assembled in the device itself. During selection, the rated current, breaking current, version type, control circuit voltage and the required protection functions are checked.
