Description
Metal-oxide surge arresters for distribution networks and substations are produced by a company in Spain which, by its own assessment, is one of the few national manufacturers in the country that meet the strictest quality standards. INZP are distribution arresters of heavy duty class with a nominal discharge current of 10 kA: without spark gaps, based on highly nonlinear metal-oxide varistors, in a polymer housing.
Tests were carried out to ANSI/IEEE C62.11 and IEC 60099-4. They are two high current impulses of 100 kA (4/10), 18 impulses of 250 A lasting 2000 µs and an operating duty cycle of 20 discharges of 10 kA 8/20 µs followed by two impulses of 100 kA. After each test the device is thermally stable, and the rise in residual voltage does not exceed 5 %. The specific energy capability is 3.36 kJ/kV, the maximum ambient temperature 60 °C (average up to 40 °C).
The range of rated voltages Ur covers 3, 6, 9, 10, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, 27, 30, 33, 36, 39, 42, 45 and 48 kV with a continuous operating voltage Uc from 2.55 to 39 kV, and residual voltages at currents of different amplitudes are given for each rating. The INZP…/IS version (riser pole) with reduced residual voltages is intended for cable poles. The selection tables cover 4.2–47 kV networks with earthed and isolated (compensated) neutral, taking the temporary overvoltage (TOV) characteristic into account.
The HTV silicone rubber housing is hydrophobic, water collects into droplets and rolls off, cleaning the surface, so the arresters work in polluted areas without cleaning or greasing. The arresters withstood 5000-hour accelerated polymer ageing under Annex C of IEC 61109. The polymer housing rules out chips and cracks of porcelain during transport and reduces weight. Accessories are NEMA type B fittings and insulating caps; supply without accessories is also possible.
SL are polymer station arresters and arresters for power transmission lines. The manufacturer develops and makes the ZnO varistor blocks itself, which makes it possible to adapt the parameters to a specific application. Applications cover protection of transformers, switchgear and cable terminations in 6–35 kV networks, substations and overhead lines.
