HN — vacuum contactor 3/6 kV
HN is a series of vacuum contactors for 3 and 6 kV for switching high-voltage motors, transformers and capacitor banks in medium-voltage switchgear. The SUPER MAGNET electromagnet with a built-in microchip is supplied with AC or DC and reduces energy consumption.

Description
The HN series covers vacuum contactors for rated voltages of 3 and 6 kV. The typical place of installation is starter cubicles of high-voltage motors for pumps, fans and compressors, as well as feeders with frequent load switching at power plants and industrial enterprises. The contactors also switch power transformers and capacitor banks. The design is adapted to different customer requirements for the installation method and operating voltage.
The microchip in the SUPER MAGNET electromagnet controls the closing circuit and lowers the holding current, so the coil consumes less energy. The electromagnet works on both AC and DC, and the wide range of operating voltages makes the contactor suitable for networks in different countries. The contacts are held without chatter even when the voltage of the control circuit drops. The manufacturer links the use of the microchip in the control circuit with higher operating stability of the device.
The 3 and 6 kV versions use a common insulating frame of identical dimensions. This simplifies switchgear design: cubicles of both voltage classes are laid out the same way, and are easier to standardize. Moving from 3 to 6 kV does not require changing the mounting dimensions of the contactor. The vacuum interrupter with high switching performance minimizes overvoltages during closing and opening. Therefore special protection against switching overvoltages is generally not needed, and for motor starting circuits with frequent switching the cubicle circuit is simpler.
The contactors are made in fixed version (type P) and in withdrawable versions X, Y and H, including with built-in current transformers. Two holding options are available. With continuous holding, the contactor holds its contacts while voltage is applied to the coil. With a mechanical latch, it stays closed even after the operating supply disappears, which is convenient for feeders that must not trip during a short loss of operating power.
When selecting, specify the rated voltage of 3 or 6 kV, the version type, the holding mode, the need for built-in current transformers and the control circuit voltage. These data determine the contactor modification and its place in the cubicle. For replacement of devices in existing cubicles, the frame dimensions and terminal layout are also checked.

Questions and answers
What voltage are HN contactors rated for?
For 3 and 6 kV. Both versions have a common insulating frame of identical dimensions, so switchgear cubicles are easy to standardize.
Is protection against switching overvoltages needed for 6 kV motors?
The HN vacuum interrupter minimizes overvoltages during closing and opening, so special protection is generally not needed. This applies to the 3 and 6 kV versions.
Which versions of the HN contactor are available?
Fixed type P and withdrawable types X, Y and H, including with built-in CTs. Holding is continuous or with a mechanical latch, and the coil supply is AC/DC.
