H22 / H29 — indoor load-break switches 12–38.5 kV
H22 is a universal three-phase indoor load-break switch for 12, 24, 36 and 38.5 kV with a rated current of 630 and 1250 A. It breaks ring circuits, disconnects network transformers and protects them in combination with fuses. It is complemented by the H29 switch for 24 and 36 kV, 630 A.

Description
H22 is used in W24, PRO-AIR H and other switchgear. The H29 switch is produced in single-pole and three-pole versions, and it is installed, in particular, in PRO-AIR H switchgear of the H•a and H•c sizes. The H22 versions are as follows. EK without free tripping, 630 A. EA with free tripping, 630 and 1250 A. SEA a combination with fuses, where the switch is rated for 630 A and the fuse holder for 125 A, to EN 62271-105 with a mechanical tripping delay. Free tripping, crossbeams, insulators and HV fuse holders provide all-pole disconnection when a fuse link operates.
Rated voltages are 12, 24, 36 and 38.5 kV, frequency 50 Hz. For 12 kV at 630 A, the peak withstand current is 50 kA, the short-time withstand current 20 kA for 3 s and the making capacity 50 kA. At 1250 A these values are 100 kA and 40 kA / 3 s. The switch breaks active load and closed loops of 630/1250 A, cable charging current of 90 A and earth fault current of 300 A. Insulation levels (impulse phase–earth / across the isolating distance) are 75/85 kV for 12 kV, 125/145 kV for 24 kV, 170/195 kV for 36 kV and 180/210 kV for 38.5 kV.
The arc is extinguished as follows. The main contacts open first, and the current briefly flows through a parallel delayed pin with a tungsten tip. The chamber consists of four sections with pressure and expansion chambers and two spring-loaded extinguishing plates. Small currents are extinguished as a result of deionization near the cooling walls, and large ones by a gas flow. Neither liquid nor compressed air is needed, and the chambers require no maintenance. Classes E1 and M2, for EA and SEA M1.
The EK drive has one torsion spring for fast closing and opening. The EA drive has two springs, and the opening is released by the fuse striker with a force of at least 80 N, by a release or manually. Transmission is by a lever linkage or by 774/776 motor drives, with releases for 110/230 V AC and 24–220 V DC. The ES-20 and ES-31,5 earthing switches (31.5 kA, 50 kA, 3 s) are installed on top, at the bottom or in the frame, with mechanical interlocking.

Questions and answers
What voltages and currents is the H22 load-break switch made for?
H22 is made for 12, 24, 36 and 38.5 kV, rated current 630 and 1250 A. H29 is rated for 24 and 36 kV, 630 A.
How do the EK, EA and SEA versions differ?
EK has one torsion spring and no free tripping. EA has free tripping and two springs. SEA is a combination with fuses, with a 125 A fuse holder.
What currents does H22 break at 12 kV?
