Description
The line is aimed at the ANSI/IEEE standards market. A generator circuit breaker is installed between the generator terminals and the step-up transformer. It must interrupt particularly severe short-circuit currents with a large DC component and delayed current zero crossing, as well as currents during out-of-phase switching. Vacuum technology eliminates the use of SF6 for insulation and arc quenching. Both types comply with ANSI, IEEE and NEMA, and UL/c-UL certification is possible.
GMSG-GCB are withdrawable circuit breakers for GM-SG and GM-SG-AR switchgear for 10–80 MW generators. The rated maximum voltage is 15 kV, the rated currents are 1200, 2000 and 3000 A and 4000 A with forced cooling, the withstand voltage is 38 kV and the impulse is 95 kV. The 40, 50 and 63 kA versions from the network (20, 25 and 31.5 kA from the generator) have a making and carrying capacity of 110, 137 and 173 kA, a short-time withstand of 3 s and a breaking time of less than 80 ms. The duty cycle is CO-30 min-CO.
The breaker is built on the 3A family platform and the 3AH3 mechanism (more than 120,000 mechanisms produced since 1998). It is serviced with the same procedures as ordinary circuit breakers, so no additional personnel training is needed. The mean time to failure of the vacuum interrupters exceeds 50,000 years, and the endurance is up to 50 full short-circuit breaking operations and 10,000 operations before overhaul. The breaker is shipped inside the panel and racked out with the doors closed, and it can be controlled with the SIERS remote racking system.
Stationary GCB are fixed-mounted breakers for machines up to 200 MW, engineered for the specific site taking electrical and mechanical requirements into account. The maximum design voltage is 24 kV, the rated current is up to 6000 A and the breaking current is up to 72 kA. The breaker performs up to 50 full short-circuit breaking operations and up to 10,000 mechanical operations, and the mechanism is accessible from the front. It is used in gas turbine, steam turbine and cogeneration plants, small hydropower plants and industrial power plants. For generators of higher power, up to 500 MVA, there are the 3AH36/37/38 circuit breakers.
