EPR / EPRIS — solid epoxy insulated reclosers 15.5–38 kV
EPR and EPRIS are vacuum reclosers with solid epoxy insulation for overhead lines and substations of 15.5, 27 and 38 kV, with rated current up to 800 A and breaking current up to 16 kA. The magnetic actuator drive withstands 10 000 operations, and the ETR300-R or EVRC2A-NT controller provides protection and a SCADA link.

Description
The line consists of the three-phase reclosers EPR-1, EPR-2, EPR-3 and the single-phase EPRIS. They are installed on overhead lines and substations of the 15.5, 27 and 38 kV classes. In 2002 the company was the first in Korea to make a 27 kV solid-insulated recloser that passed type tests at KEMA, and later added 15 and 38 kV models.
The arc is extinguished by vacuum interrupters cast into epoxy bushings. There is no oil or gas inside, so there is no explosion hazard. The bushings are made of hydrophobic cycloaliphatic epoxy resin HCEP (Hydrophobic Cycloaliphatic Epoxy), keep insulating properties in harsh climates and heavily polluted areas, and resist tracking, ultraviolet and vandalism. The creepage distance meets ANSI. The stainless steel tank and control cabinet withstand heat, humidity, dust and corrosion. The drive is built on a permanent magnet actuator PMA without mechanical latches, with few moving parts and a life of 10 000 operations without maintenance.
The single-phase version is rated for 15.5 kV, the three-phase ones for 15.5, 27 and 38 kV. Rated current is 630/800 A and 800 A. Breaking and short-time withstand current is 16 kA for 3 s, and for 27 kV it is 12.5 or 16 kA. Making capacity is 41.6 kA, and in the 27 kV model 32.5/41.6 kA. Cable charging current is interrupted within 10–40 A, line charging current within 2–5 A. The insulation of the 38 kV unit withstands an impulse of 170 kV, 70 kV dry and 45 kV wet.
The tank has built-in resistive (1 %) and capacitive (2.5 %) voltage dividers and CTs for the whole protection range, and manual tripping is provided. The 17 A·h battery gives hundreds of operations with supply lost for up to 30 hours. Supply is 110–240 V AC or 125 V DC, temperature range is −40…+80 °C, degree of protection is IP65.
Microprocessor controllers ETR300-R or EVRC2A-NT have a built-in RTU, measurement, an event log and communication over DNP 3.0, MODBUS, IEC 60870-5-101/104, and the ETR300-R also works over IEC 61850. Functions 51P/51G/50P/50G/46/81/27/59/67/79 are implemented. The recloser is mounted on a pole or at a substation, accessories included. Type tests were carried out at KEMA, CESI and KERI to ANSI/IEEE C37.60 and IEC 62271-111.
