Description

EcoLink is designed for rural and remote distribution lines with low load currents. Such lines are usually protected by fuses. EcoLink is fitted in the same holder, and the line gains an auto-reclose function with minimal installation cost. The device suits most fuse holders, and its weight of 16.3 lb makes installation easier.

There are no batteries. The device draws energy from the line current, and the storage element is a supercapacitor array that charges quickly and does not degrade the way batteries do. Charge is accumulated from the same line current, so after the line is energised the device is quickly ready for operation. A primary current of 0.15 A is enough for operation, and the minimum protection pickup setting is 1 A. Fast protection is provided for switching onto an existing fault. The operating temperature range is from −40 to 131 °F.

The patented switch-lock handle is arranged so that, before EcoLink is removed from the holder, the internal vacuum interrupter breaks the line current. No external arc occurs during removal, and the lineman works with a device through which current no longer flows.

The ECL15-4-200-501 model has a maximum operating voltage of 15.5 kV, a short-circuit breaking current of 4 kA, a short-circuit making current of 10.4 kA (peak) and a short-time withstand current of 4 kA for 3 s. The lightning impulse withstand voltage is 110 kV, and the power-frequency withstand voltage, dry and wet, is 50 kV. Mechanical endurance is 2000 operations, and 300 operations at maximum breaking current. The auto-reclose duty cycle is O–0.1 s–CO–1 s–CO–1 s–CO, the frequency is 50 / 60 Hz and the design service life is 15 years. The device complies with IEEE C37.60 and IEC 62271-111.

Settings are entered in the EcoLink app over a secure encrypted wireless connection with role-based access. The requirements of the IEEE 1686 cybersecurity standard were taken into account in the design. Setting sets are stored and managed centrally using Excel templates, which is convenient for a network company with a large fleet of such devices.
