Description
The circuit breakers are installed in the generator circuit between the generator and the step-up transformer. They must interrupt short-circuit currents fed both from the network and from the generator itself, with a large DC component and delayed current zero crossing, and withstand severe transient recovery voltages. According to the manufacturer, ordinary circuit breakers usually cannot meet such requirements, and the 3AH3 generator portfolio was created precisely for them.
The series is rated for a voltage up to 24 kV, a breaking current up to 110 kA and a rated current up to 15,000 A. It is therefore used where high continuous load currents and high thermal withstand are required. The circuit breakers are built on the manufacturer's many years of experience in vacuum switching, require little maintenance and have a large performance margin, which allows for network power growth without costly equipment replacement.
The vacuum interrupters work together with the 3AH3 spring mechanism. For selection, the generator power, rated voltage, rated unit current, short-circuit current from the network and from the generator and the cooling conditions of the busduct are compared. The circuit breaker configuration is done with an online configurator with three-dimensional visualization. Detailed data, including sizes, endurance, dimensions and the cooling system, are not given on the downloaded page and are confirmed from the catalog.
They are used in generator circuits of thermal, gas turbine and combined-cycle power plants, hydropower and pumped storage plants, and in generator-voltage busducts where interruption of short-circuit currents from the generator is required.
