Description
On long AC railway lines the most common supply scheme is 2×27.5 kV with autotransformers. To protect lines in such networks the company produces an outdoor two-pole 31.5/27.5 kV circuit breaker built on its own solid insulation technology. The 2000 A version suits traction substations and sectioning posts of any type. The apparatus protects catenary feeders and switches compensating devices. The two poles correspond to the two phases of the autotransformer scheme, where the contact wire and the feeder wire are switched simultaneously.
The insulation is epoxy, with no oil or SF6. The apparatus is not explosive, needs no monitoring of insulating media, and the service life of the solid insulation is practically unlimited. The drive is based on the electromagnetic actuator EMA, operates quickly and withstands frequent operations; the O-0.3 s-CO-180 s-CO cycle is possible. The manufacturer states at least 20 breaks at the rated breaking current and a maximum endurance of 10 000 operations. The control cabinet is waterproof, with degree of protection IP55, and automatic control based on IEC 61850 is available as an option. With no gas, there is no issue of monitoring pressure and leaks in frost.
Rated voltage is 31.5 kV for a 27.5 kV network, frequency 50 Hz, number of phases 2. Rated breaking current is 31.5 kA, short-time withstand current 31.5 kA for 3 s, peak current 80 kA. Capacitor bank breaking current is 200 A. The impulse test voltage is 325 kV between phases, 215 kV between poles and 185 kV to earth, and the power frequency voltage is 140, 90 and 90 kV respectively. Control supply is 110 V DC or 220 V AC, and the total break time is less than 3 cycles. Fast breaking shortens the duration of a short circuit on the catenary and the thermal effect of the current on the wire and substation equipment.
Design, manufacture and testing follow the ISO 9001 quality management system. The full set of type tests under the TB/T 2803 standard was passed at the XIHARI institute (Xi'an, China). The breaker is installed outdoors at open switchyards of traction substations, next to traction transformers and autotransformers, and the control cabinet with the drive is mounted on the same structure.
