PPS / PPQ epoxy bushings with external cone 24–42 kV, 250–1250 A

PPS and PPQ are cast epoxy bushings with an external cone for 24, 36 and 42 kV and currents from 250 to 1250 A. They connect an MV cable to transformers, packaged substations and switchgear with oil or gas insulation.

Description

The company makes non-condenser epoxy bushings for low and medium voltage; PPS and PPQ belong to the MV group. PPS and PPQ are cast from epoxy resin as a single piece, so the bushing needs no assembly. Compared with porcelain, epoxy is lighter, stronger and better withstands impacts. The bushings bring medium voltage into oil-filled machines, that is distribution transformers, packaged transformer substations and switchgear with oil or gas insulation.

The connection is made by an external cone (plug-in bushing). A standard separable cable connector, T-shaped or angled, is pushed onto the bushing, giving a fully insulated cable connection. The connector can be removed and fitted again without opening the tank. The interfaces comply with EN 50180 / EN 50181 (types A, B, C, D), and also DIN 47636, DIN 42538, DIN 42542, HN 52-S-61, UTE C 66-555 and IEEE Std 386.

The PPS series is made for 24 kV (250 A in standard, shortened R and extended L length, and also 1250 A), for 36 kV (250, 400 and 630 A) and for 42 kV / 630 A. The latter variant is also available in a High TG version for elevated temperatures. The PPQ 24 kV / 250 A is made to the ENEL specification, and the bushings are approved by that company. For each length the catalogue gives the immersion depth depending on voltage, namely 40, 50 and 70 mm for 6–10, 12–20 and 18–30 kV.

The bushings are installed indoors, vertically or horizontally. They are fixed with a DIN flange or French pads, and fixing kits and earthing leads are supplied to order. The recommended tightening torques and drawings of all parts are given in the catalogue, so the installer has all the data to assemble the unit.

Applications cover oil-filled and gas-insulated transformers, dry-type transformers, switchgear and traction transformers; for traction the manufacturer's leaflet suggests PPS 36 and 42 kV. The compact external-cone cable entry is widely used in packaged substations and 6–35 kV distribution networks, both in new installations and in upgrades.
