TX-10 steam turbine for nuclear power plants with six-flow exhaust, up to 1,800 MW
TX-10 is a steam turbine for nuclear power plants rated up to 1,800 MW, the largest in the manufacturer's nuclear range. A double-flow HP cylinder and three double-flow LP cylinders give six exhaust flows. The turbine works with BWR and PWR reactors on saturated steam up to 75 bar abs.

Description
TX-10 is built as a tandem-compound unit with reheat and a downward exhaust. The shaft line consists of one double-flow high-pressure cylinder and three double-flow low-pressure cylinders. According to the manufacturer's steam turbine catalog, main steam pressure is up to 75 bar abs. (1,088 psia), main steam temperature up to 290 °C and reheat temperature up to 280 °C. The inlet steam is saturated, so volumetric flows in the LP cylinders are large and the exhaust is split into six flows. Grid frequency is 50 or 60 Hz.
Nuclear turbines of the manufacturer, including the TX-10 series, have been supplied with a total capacity of over 20 GW. The company positions itself as a leading supplier of steam turbine units for Generation III+ nuclear plants. Its references include the Vogtle plant in Georgia (USA) and the Barakah plant in the UAE. TX-10 is installed on new large nuclear units and used to replace turbines at operating stations.
Wet steam calls for dedicated design solutions. The rotor is a solid forged monoblock, which lowers the risk of stress corrosion cracking and shaft vibration. The blades have moisture removal and erosion protection, and the flow path is designed to suppress leakage. Several blade options are offered for the last stage. On request the LP rotors are made interchangeable, so one spare rotor fits any of the three low-pressure cylinders.
The manufacturer has built steam turbines since 1927. By December 2023, according to the manufacturer, 2,038 units with a total capacity of 217,652 MW had been supplied. Production is carried out at the plant in Yokohama (Japan) and at the JSW Power Systems joint venture in Chennai (India). In North America, where the first delivery took place in 1967, the manufacturer is the largest supplier of steam turbine units from 200 MW. The turbines for this market are supplied by the company's North American subsidiary.
The turbine is supplied together with a turbogenerator and the D-EHC digital control system with a start-up optimized for rotor thermal stress. For the slow-speed nuclear turbines the manufacturer builds four-pole TX-NLCH generators. The service life of the manufacturer's turbine units well exceeds the expected 20 years, and one unit in Australia has shown availability of 99.6%. The company also provides service, repair and upgrades of turbines and generators.
