TX-1 is the most compact steam turbine in the TX line, rated up to 220 MW. The high-, intermediate- and low-pressure sections are housed in one casing with a single-flow exhaust. The turbine is used in small and medium-output thermal power plants, in the steam section of combined-cycle plants and in industrial plants.

Description
A single TX-1 casing houses the whole flow path from main steam inlet to exhaust. One casing means one turbine rotor, fewer bearings and a shorter shaft line, so the turbine plant is simpler and cheaper with good efficiency. The exhaust is downward, into a basement condenser, or axial. The axial version lowers the centreline height of the turbine unit and the volume of the civil works, so the foundation and turbine hall come out smaller.
Main steam pressure is up to 170 bar(a) (2,466 psia), main steam and reheat temperature up to 585 °C, grid frequency 50 or 60 Hz, output up to 220 MW. The flow path, seals and last stages are built on the same technologies as in the manufacturer's large turbines. These are high-performance blades, improved seals and proven last-stage blades. Even in one casing the turbine has reheat, which raises cycle efficiency and lowers steam wetness in the last stages. The dimensions of the unit are determined for each project.
TX-1 is easier to maintain because of its small size and single casing, since only one cylinder is opened during an overhaul. The manufacturer ranks unit availability among the highest in its class. The turbine is installed in steam turbine plants of small and medium-output thermal power plants, in the steam section of combined-cycle plants and in industrial and municipal power plants where compactness and construction cost matter. If fast start-up is needed for the variable output of solar and wind plants, the range includes the geared TX-2G.
The manufacturer has built steam turbines since 1927. According to the manufacturer, by December 2023 2,038 units with a total output of 217,652 MW had been delivered. They are built at plants in Yokohama (Japan) and Chennai (India). The first delivery to North America took place in 1967, and the company is now the largest supplier of steam turbine units from 200 MW there.
The turbine is equipped with a turbine generator and the D-EHC digital control system, in which start-up is optimized according to rotor thermal stress. The service life of the manufacturer's turbine units significantly exceeds the expected 20 years, and one unit in Australia has shown 99.6 % reliability. The company also takes on service, repair and upgrades of turbines and generators.
