Description
A separate division of the manufacturer has dealt with equipment for small and medium hydropower plants since the 1990s and builds the line on standardized modules. Over this time almost 12 thousand units have been supplied, installed or refurbished. Pre-engineered components shorten design, the units are tested at the factory, transport dimensions are smaller and installation is shorter. In the mini line standardization has gone even further without loss of performance, to reduce cost and simplify operation of the smallest plants.
The water-to-wire supply includes the turbine inlet valve, turbine, gearbox, generator, digital speed governor with an oil pressure unit, control automation, protection, excitation and synchronization, and plant electrical equipment. Generators are synchronous or asynchronous with brushless excitation.
Axial units have 3-6-blade runners with single or double regulation and a horizontal or vertical shaft. With a belt drive they operate at a head of up to 5 m and deliver up to 600 kW, with a bevel gearbox up to 12 m and up to 2 600 kW. Bulb units are designed for a head of up to 15 m and up to 15 000 kW, PIT units for a head of up to 12 m and up to 10 000 kW. Compact axial CAT turbines take a head of up to 45 m at an output of up to 15 000 kW. More than 300 Compact Axial Bulb units are in operation.
Francis turbines are produced in a mini design for 20-3 000 kW at a head of 10-150 m and as small units from 500 kW to 30 MW at a head of up to 300 m. Pelton in a mini design gives 100-5 000 kW at 60-800 m, and a small turbine of up to 30 MW works at 50-1 000 m. Guarantees on efficiency, output and cavitation are confirmed by model tests in the manufacturer's laboratories.
A separate field is energy recovery in reverse osmosis, drinking water supply and sewage systems. For river plants there are oil-free Kaplan runners, which over the last 20 years have been supplied to more than 130 sites, and fish-friendly designs. The units are installed at new small hydropower plants, in the reconstruction of small stations and in stand-alone power systems.
