Description
The compressor is axial, 22-stage, with four stages of variable guide vanes. The fuel is burned twice. First it burns in the annular EV (EnVironmental) combustor with 24 burners, then the gas passes through a single-stage air-cooled high-pressure turbine. The second annular combustor, SEV (Sequential EnVironmental), also has 24 burners, followed by a four-stage air-cooled low-pressure turbine. The rotor is welded and the generator is driven from the cold end.
The data are given for ISO conditions, natural gas and direct cooling. The output of 370 MW includes the contribution of OTC, efficiency is 41 %, exhaust gas flow is 741 kg/s and exhaust temperature is 635 °C. The 1+1 combined cycle delivers 540 MW net at an efficiency of 61 % and a heat rate of 5900 kJ/kWh, and the 2+1 combined cycle 1083 MW at an efficiency of 61.2 %. Minimum combined cycle load is 15 % for 1+1 and 8 % for 2+1.
Sequential combustion keeps emissions low in a wide load window, down to 15 % of plant load. During hours of low demand the unit can be parked with all components switched on, without shutting it down. Such load headroom is convenient for maximum participation in dispatch on dynamic electricity markets. NOx emissions are up to 15 ppm dry on gas. At a high hydrogen content conventional combustors produce a lot of NOx and risk flashback, so output has to be reduced. In the GT26 the load reduction of the first stage is compensated by moving fuel to the second, so output is preserved and NOx stays low. Up to 45 % hydrogen in a mixture with natural gas is approved for operation, and the turbine keeps high efficiency at this share as well.
The operating mode is switched without stopping the machine. The power optimization mode gives more output, and the maintenance cost optimization mode gives up to 30 % more time between planned inspections. The hot gas path inspection interval is 32,000 hours. There are 110 GT26 turbines installed worldwide, 78 of them with the company's technologies, and the total operating time exceeds 9 million equivalent hours. Upgrade packages and service contracts, from one-off services to operation and maintenance contracts, are offered for the fleet.
