Description
Desuperheaters reduce the temperature of superheated steam by injecting water directly into the steam flow. They are used in power generation and in the oil and gas industry. At thermal and CHP plants these are temperature control units for live and reduced steam, desuperheaters of ШРОУ/РОУ stations and of auxiliary lines. The desuperheater is supplied separately, together with an injection chamber, or installed downstream of a control valve, in which case a complete pressure reducing and desuperheating station (PRDS) results.
The line has four versions. DVP is a multi-nozzle desuperheater of integrated type with variable flow area. The multi-nozzle layout has practically no limits on flow rate, operating conditions and steam line diameter, there is an internal protective liner, and the water supply lines are designed for free thermal expansion. DVT has a Venturi tube, a wide control range, good water atomization even at minimum flow, a set of nozzle sizes and accurate control. Dimensions are small because the control system is built in. DVT allows large pressure drops, a multi-stage trim and a cryogenic version. DSP (probe type) and DSE (external mounting) are spring-loaded desuperheaters with variable area that atomize water well even at very low steam velocity and suit very low flows.
Size ranges depend on the version. On the water side from 1/2″ to 3″, on the steam side from 2″ to 40″, pressure class ANSI 150–2500. Bodies are made of carbon, chrome-molybdenum and austenitic stainless steel, as well as EN grades, with internal parts of stainless steel and other alloys. Connections are ANSI or DIN flanges (RF/RTJ), weld-end BW/SW or flangeless (water-style). Control versions are fitted with a double-acting pneumatic cylinder with a spring for a safe position on failure. An injection chamber and a protective jacket are supplied to order.
From the supply experience, the rebuild of desuperheating systems made of Gr.91 steel (steam 150 bar, 575 °C) at three Italian combined-cycle plants is known. Together with TBV/PRDS valves, desuperheaters form a set for steam turbine bypass and pressure reducing and desuperheating installations, and on boilers desuperheating control valves of the same line are also installed.

Questions and answers
Which desuperheater versions are in the line?
Four versions. DVP is multi-nozzle integrated, DVT has a Venturi tube, DSP is probe type and DSE is external mounting, the last two being spring-loaded.
What sizes and pressure class do the desuperheaters have?
On the water side from 1/2″ to 3″, on the steam side from 2″ to 40″, depending on the version. Pressure class ANSI 150–2500.
Which materials are the bodies made of and which connections are possible?
Bodies are made of carbon, chrome-molybdenum or austenitic stainless steel and EN grades. Connection is by ANSI or DIN flanges (RF/RTJ), weld-end BW/SW or flangeless (water-style).
