Description
DGT-5 is a small gas turbine of 5 MW, developed in house by the manufacturer. Development was completed in 2005 and it became the company's first proof of gas turbine competence, on which the heavy H-class turbine programme was later built. The history of the manufacturer's gas turbine development goes back to the 1990s. The turbine belongs to the small machines that are installed directly on an industrial site or near the gas source. Such a machine is convenient for small sites.
According to the official website, the DGT-5 delivers 5 MW in simple cycle at an efficiency above 29 % and can run on fuel with a low heating value (LHV fuel). The turbine is not tied to natural gas, so it can be fed with gases that are considered weak fuel for large machines. Low-calorific fuel gives less heat per unit volume, so the gas flow through the turbine is larger than on natural gas. In the line it is the smallest, followed by the DGT-100 of 90 MW, and above it are the heavy H-class DGT6-300H turbines of 270 to 380 MW.
The ability to use low-calorific gases makes the turbine suitable for utilisation of associated and process gases, including blast furnace and coke oven gas of metallurgical plants, biogas, syngas and gases of petrochemical production.
Other fields of application include autonomous power supply of industrial sites and small cogeneration plants with heat recovery boilers for producing steam and heat. In the power system such plants work as distributed generation and reserve. The manufacturer itself designs heat recovery boilers, steam turbines and auxiliary plant equipment, so the turbine fits into a comprehensive cogeneration project. In a cogeneration scheme the exhaust gases go straight to the heat recovery boiler, and the efficiency of the plant as a whole rises thanks to heat and steam.
The manufacturer's gas turbines are built and tested in Changwon (Korea), on a site with its own foundry and forging production, a hot parts shop and a full-speed full-load test bed. Detailed technical data for the DGT-5, including exhaust gas flow and temperature, rotational speed and the generator and gearbox configuration, are not given in the available materials and are being clarified.
