Description
The AE64.3A became the world's first annular gas turbine operating in gas premix mode across the whole load range. Load rejection and other transient modes are easier to handle as a result. The turbine starts quickly and adapts easily to different tasks, and in petrochemicals it is used as a source of electricity and steam. Its compactness allows installation on offshore platforms and quick deployment of generation in remote offshore and river areas. It also burns mixtures of hydrogen with natural gas, so it suits refineries and chemical plants and small and medium renewable energy parks.
The compressor is axial, 15-stage, with variable guide vanes. The annular combustor is lined with tiles that are replaced individually and has 24 dual-fuel low-emission dry premix burners. The rotor is single-shaft, disc type, with internal air cooling, Hirth splines and a central tie rod. The four-stage air-cooled turbine has an axial exhaust. The architecture repeats the company's large machines but is packed into compact dimensions. The generator is driven from the cold end through a gearbox, and all blades are replaced without removing the rotor.
The data are given for ISO conditions, 100 % methane and direct cooling. Output is 78 MW, efficiency is 36.9 %, exhaust gas flow is 215 kg/s, exhaust temperature is 580 °C and minimum GT load is 45 %. The 1+1 combined cycle gives 120 MW net at an efficiency of 55.7 % and a heat rate of 6463 kJ/kWh, and the 2+1 combined cycle 243 MW at an efficiency of 56.4 %. Combined cycle turndown depths are 50 % and 30 % respectively. NOx is up to 15 ppm dry on gas and 75 ppm on liquid fuel, or 60 ppm with a small amount of water injection.
The hot gas path inspection interval is 33,000 equivalent hours. The compact layout and fast on-site work keep maintenance costs and downtime low and availability high. Hot gas path inspection is carried out without removing the rotor, because blades and vane carriers are replaced in place. Service contracts are tailored to the customer and can include upgrade packages. A total of 73 units are installed, with a total operating time of over 4 million equivalent hours.
