T2 Ecotrans — oil-filled Tier 2 distribution transformers up to 5 MVA, 6.6–33 kV

Description

T2 Ecotrans is a range of distribution transformers with a core of cold-rolled grain-oriented steel (CRGO), intended for budget-constrained projects while meeting the Ecodesign Tier 2 loss requirements. The transformers are liquid-filled. They are filled with mineral oil (ONAN cooling) or with synthetic or natural ester (KNAN) for sites with increased fire safety requirements.

The range is up to 5 MVA with a high voltage of 11, 6.6 or 33 kV and a low voltage of 433 V, 690 V or any other to order. Standard stock versions at 11 000/433 V have ratings of 315, 500, 800, 1000, 1250, 1500, 1600, 2000, 2500 and 3000 kVA. The vector group is Dyn11, the windings are aluminium, the HV taps are +5, +2.5, 0, −2.5 and −5 %, and breathing is free or a hermetically sealed tank. No-load/load losses at 75 °C are 324/2800 W for 315 kVA and 1885/21 960 W for 3000 kVA.

For each rating there is an ONAN/KNAN datasheet and a general arrangement drawing, including with RMUs and LV cabinets mounted, that is, a turnkey layout. Unit type versions (HV and LV terminals on one side) and large distribution transformers for BESS up to 5 MVA with a split LV winding are possible. Stock availability shortens delivery times, and to order the design can be fully adapted to the site.

According to the general arrangement drawings, the unit is equipped with a five-position off-circuit tap changer with a sealing facility, a thermometer pocket, an oil level indicator, an earthing terminal for an M12 bolt and a skid base with holes for transport. The 12 kV HV cable box is three-pole, with heat-shrink insulation, for one three-core cable of up to 185 mm². Painting is to BS 381C (shade 632) and ISO 12944, not lower than C4H, and the top-oil temperature rise above ambient is 40 °C.

Deliveries include seven T2 1500 kVA transformers for the DP World Southampton port, a T2 1600 kVA 11–6.6/0.433 kV transformer for a Thames Water pumping station, 2–2.8 MVA 11/0.417 kV KNAN transformers for a data centre in Peterborough, and forty 2.8 MVA 33/0.48 kV transformers for the Pillswood BESS (98 MW / 196 MWh, Tesla Megapack). Applications are industry, ports, water utilities, data centres, energy storage systems and commercial property. The standard is IEC 60076.
