SW45 / SW47 / SW460 — indoor current transformers with primary winding, 24 kV
SW45, SW47 and SW460 are dry-type current transformers with cast insulation and a primary winding, for indoor installation in medium-voltage switchgear of the class up to 24 kV. Several cores (up to three) allow one unit to supply both meters and protection devices. They are used for commercial metering and relay protection.

Description
The SW45, SW47 and SW460 transformers have cast insulation and a primary winding, and are installed inside medium-voltage switchgear of the class up to 24 kV. They are intended for commercial metering and relay protection. Up to three cores on one unit supply both meters and protection devices. The SW45 and SW47 operate at 50/60 Hz, and a dual transformation ratio is obtained by tapping the secondary winding or by switching the primary. Accuracy classes under IEC are 0.1, 0.2, 0.2S, 0.5, 0.5S, 1, 3, 5, 5P, 10P and PX, under CSA 0.15, 0.15S, 0.3, 0.6, 1.2 and 2.5L–10L, and the operating temperature is −25…+40 °C. The secondary terminal is a PG16 cable gland with a sealable cover. A short base without the cover and a version without primary studs are available as options.
The SW45 is compact and designed for commercial metering and protection in MV switchgear. Insulation level is up to 25/50/125 kV, primary current up to 1250 A, short-time thermal current up to 40 kA for 1 s, dynamic current up to 2.5 Ith, 1–3 cores, mass about 19 kg. It is qualified by ENEDIS (approval No. 16C033/SD) and CSA (LR 109295). The SW47 is rated for high currents, with insulation up to 27.5/50/125 kV, primary current up to 3000 A, short-time thermal current up to 80 kA for 1 s, 1–3 cores, mass about 31 kg and CSA qualification.
The SW460 is a special waterproof version. It is a compact, temporarily submersible and fully earthed transformer with a degree of protection of IP27 (30 minutes under 2 m of water). The primary connection is made through a special interface for equipment from another manufacturer, and the unit is ENEDIS-qualified. Insulation is 24/50/125 kV, frequency 50 Hz, primary current up to 600 A, short-time thermal current 12.5 kA for 1 s. There are two cores: the first is 7.5 VA, class 0.2S with safety factor FS10 for metering, and the second is 5 VA, class 5P30 for protection. Mass is about 25 kg, with a PG21 cable gland for cable Ø 13–18 mm and a separate earthing terminal.
The standards are IEC 61869-2, CSA C61869-2 and IEEE C57.13. The transformers are installed in incomer, feeder, transformer and metering cubicles of 6–24 kV switchgear, and the SW460 also in underground and floodable substations of distribution networks.

Questions and answers
What is the difference between SW45, SW47 and SW460 in terms of current?
The SW45 is rated for primary current up to 1250 A and 40 kA, the SW47 for 3000 A and 80 kA, and the SW460 for 600 A and 12.5 kA for 1 s.
Can the SW460 be installed in floodable substations?
Yes. The SW460 has a degree of protection of IP27, which means it withstands 30 minutes under 2 m of water, and it is fully earthed.
How many cores do the transformers have?
The SW45 and SW47 have 1–3 cores. The SW460 has two, one of 7.5 VA, class 0.2S for metering and one of 5 VA, class 5P30 for protection.
