Description
Two-winding and three-winding power transformers rated from 5 to 300 MVA and autotransformers up to 500 MVA are made for the voltage classes 400, 275, 132, 66 and 33 kV; non-standard voltages are made on request. The units, including extra-high-voltage ones, meet the requirements of Ecodesign Tier 2 (Tier 1 only by an agreed exception). The insulation is liquid, mineral oil up to 400 kV, and manufacture follows IEC, BS and other international standards.
Each transformer is designed for a specific site. Typical vector groups are Dyn11, Dyn1 (up to 132 kV), YNd11 and YNd1. Cooling is ONAN/ONAF, a continuous emergency rating (CER) and forced air cooling with fans are possible. Radiators are tank-mounted or separate cooler banks, and voltage is regulated by an OLTC.
For independent distribution network operators (iDNOs), designs up to 120 MVA at 33, 66 and 132 kV have been produced to the design specifications of British DNOs, with ONAN/ONAF/CER cooling and an OLTC. They are suitable for schemes where, if one transformer fails or is under repair, the second takes the whole load of the site. Completed projects include a 60 MVA 132/33 kV transformer for the Osbaldwick BESS (50 MW), connected to Northern Powergrid. In 2022 a 140 MVA transformer became the basis of the first connection of a solar farm to the transmission network in the UK.
Auxiliary and earthing transformers are supplied together with the main unit. The manufacturer performs factory (FAT) and site (SAT) tests and has its own project managers and installation engineers (rigging, assembly, oil filling and filtration, cable work). The warranty is 24 months from shipment, and an extended one is possible. Every power transformer undergoes routine acceptance tests at the factory according to the relevant parts of IEC 60076; type tests are performed on request for an additional fee. Site tests (SAT) check the operation of the unit in the actual scheme of the facility.
Production is in Leeds (UK) and Chennai (India). The site of over 5500 m² has three production bays by transformer type and size, two test stands and two paint booths, and the engineering team in the UK adapts designs to project requirements. Typical applications are high-voltage power transmission, energy storage systems (BESS), combined-cycle generation and connection of renewables.

Questions and answers
What rating and voltage class do the power transformers have?
Two-winding and three-winding units are made from 5 to 300 MVA, autotransformers up to 500 MVA. The voltage classes are 33, 66, 132, 275 and 400 kV, with non-standard values on request.
Which vector groups and cooling methods are available?
Dyn11, Dyn1 (up to 132 kV), YNd11 and YNd1. Cooling is ONAN/ONAF, also CER; radiators are tank-mounted or separate cooler banks.
Are there versions for iDNOs and BESS substations?
For iDNOs there are designs up to 120 MVA at 33, 66 and 132 kV to the specifications of British DNOs. A 60 MVA 132/33 kV transformer was built for the Osbaldwick BESS (50 MW).
