Description
Large oil-filled transformers are intended for transmission and distribution grids, power plants, renewable energy facilities, energy storage systems and large industrial consumers. The tradition goes back to 1885, when the first transformer with a closed magnetic core was built; oil-filled transformers have been made here since 1900. The works are located in Tapiószele in Hungary, with a production area of more than 11,000 m², crane capacity up to 280 t and an annual output capacity of 12,000 MVA.
The range covers 20 to 600 MVA at voltage classes of 72.5 to 800 kV and frequencies of 16.7 to 60 Hz. For grid operators ratings up to 1000 MVA and voltages from 10 to 800 kV are stated. Each transformer is designed individually. Special methods and software optimise the design for the cost of materials and labour, losses and noise level, and calculate the voltage distribution under lightning and switching impulses, short-circuit withstand, zones of high electric field strength, additional losses and heating.
Available versions include low-loss designs to Ecodesign Tier 2, low-noise transformers for sites with the strict requirements of Germany and Scandinavia, hybrid insulation, transformers with biodegradable ester fluids for higher fire and environmental safety, and water cooling. For step-up transformers of biomass and geothermal plants (generator voltage 10 to 24 kV) versions are made without regulation, with an off-circuit tap changer (OCTC) or with an on-load tap changer (OLTC). For BESS, bidirectional power flow, frequent load changes and inverter harmonics are taken into account, and for data centres the typical range is 50 to 300 MVA.
All transformers are tested in the company's own laboratory, accredited to ISO/IEC 17025. Routine, type and special tests to IEC and IEEE are performed up to 800 kV and 600 MVA, with lightning impulse up to 2400 kV, switching impulse up to 1550 kV, applied voltage up to 600 kV and a partial discharge level below 20 pC. There is an oil laboratory with dissolved gas analysis, and the transformers can be fitted with monitoring systems.
Examples of deliveries are three 125 MVA 115 kV transformers for the largest BESS in Germany (Förderstedt), four 63 MVA transformers for a data centre in Madrid, and a 100 MVA 165/10.5/10.5 kV transformer with synthetic ester and water cooling for a CHP plant in Odense (Denmark).

Questions and answers
What range of ratings and voltages do these transformers have?
The range covers 20 to 600 MVA at voltage classes of 72.5 to 800 kV and frequencies of 16.7 to 60 Hz. For grid projects ratings up to 1000 MVA and voltages from 10 to 800 kV are stated.
What tests do the transformers undergo?
In the company's own laboratory, accredited to ISO/IEC 17025, routine, type and special tests to IEC and IEEE are performed up to 800 kV and 600 MVA. Lightning impulse reaches 2400 kV, switching impulse 1550 kV, and the partial discharge level is below 20 pC.
Are there versions for BESS and data centres?
Yes, for BESS bidirectional power flow, frequent load changes and inverter harmonics are taken into account. For data centres the typical range is 50 to 300 MVA, and one of the delivery examples includes four 63 MVA transformers for a data centre in Madrid.
