Description
The manufacturer produces oil-immersed power transformers for power plants and grids. The range includes generator step-up transformers (GSU), substation power transformers (PTR) and distribution transformers (DTR). The plants are located in Japan and Thailand. The rating table of the oil-immersed transformer range on the website of the manufacturer's US subsidiary states ratings up to 1100 MVA and voltages up to 800 kV. Examples include a 132/33 kV transformer rated 90/125 MVA, 230 kV class transformers and a 400 kV test transformer. In purpose they are close to 110–750 kV power transformers for power plants and substations.
The core is assembled from high-quality cold-rolled grain-oriented Hi-B steel without holes in the laminations and clamped with heat-treated plastic bands. This reduces no-load losses, magnetizing current, magnetostriction and noise, as well as mass and dimensions. The winding design is chosen for the purpose. For high voltage and protection against impulse overvoltages, a disc winding with high series capacitance is used, so potential oscillations along it during a lightning impulse are minimal. For low voltage and high currents, a cylindrical layer winding of transposed conductor or a helical winding is suitable, and for a wide regulation range, a multi-parallel cylindrical tapping winding. Transposed conductor reduces additional losses and local overheating, and magnetic shields on the inner tank wall and measures against magnetization of metal structures reduce stray losses.
The insulation of extra-high-voltage windings is designed with computer analysis of potential distribution. Before shipment, each such transformer passes a partial discharge test. The windings are wound and the active part is assembled in dust-free, air-conditioned rooms. The cooling system is chosen for the rating and site conditions; ONAN, ONAF, ODAN, ODAF and OFOW are available.
A standard transformer with an oil conservator is equipped with HV and LV bushings, an off-circuit tap changer, a Buchholz gas relay, a dehydrating breather, a pressure relief valve, a thermometer and an oil level gauge. Options include an OLTC, plug-in bushings, a rubber diaphragm in the conservator, a galvanized tank, a winding temperature indicator, fans, pumps and cable boxes. Special versions are possible, including direct connection to GIS, transportable fully assembled units, low-noise units, and units with non-flammable vegetable oil made from soybeans.
