ICR 260 / ICR 330 — HV inrush current limiting reactors for capacitor banks up to 36 kV
ICR 260 and ICR 330 are air-core, resin-encapsulated inrush current limiting reactors for rated currents from 50 to 250 A. They are connected in series with a high-voltage capacitor bank to limit the inrush current on switching. They are used in fixed and automatic banks of 6–36 kV.

Description
When a capacitor bank is switched on, especially in parallel with banks that are already in operation, inrush currents arise that exceed the rated current many times over. They are dangerous for capacitors, contactors and circuit breakers. A reactor connected in series with the bank limits the amplitude and the steepness of this transient current. It is fitted when several banks or stages operate in parallel, and also when replacing reactors in existing reactive power compensation installations at substations and industrial plants.
The reactor is an air-core type, without a steel core, and is fully encapsulated in resin. As a result the inductance is linear, there is no saturation, and external influences do not affect it. Versions are available for indoor and outdoor installation. The insulation thermal class is B and the own insulation level is 12 kV (28/75 kV). For networks above 12 kV and up to 36 kV the reactor is mounted on 17.5, 24 or 36 kV indoor or outdoor support insulators through an adapter. Fixing is by M12 or M12/M16 inserts. Without a steel core the current does not saturate the reactor even during inrush.
The maximum continuous current is 1.43 In. The rated short-time current is 43 In for 1 s, and another kA/s value is made to order. The dynamic current is 2.5 Ith. The ICR 260 range has a diameter of 260 mm and a height of 390 mm. Rated currents of 50, 60, 100, 125 and 175 A correspond to inductances of 350, 250, 100, 50 and 30 μH, with a mass of 13–16 kg. The ICR 330 reactor is larger, with a diameter of 330 mm and a height of 470 mm. Its rated currents of 60, 75, 90, 125, 200 and 250 A correspond to inductances of 450, 350, 250, 100, 50 and 30 μH, with a mass of 20–26 kg.
There are two ranges, so the reactor is selected by the rated current of the bank and the required inductance. The reactors comply with the IEC 60076-6:2007 standard. Other powers, voltages and frequencies are made on request. Methods for selecting a reactor for a single bank and for banks switched in parallel are given in the manufacturer's catalogue.
